Quick Quotes
Q. Here with Jennifer Kupcho after the second round of the Kroger Queen City Championship presented by P&G. 6-under 66. Talk a little bit about your round today.
JENNIFER KUPCHO: Honestly just made a lot of putts. I felt like I was hitting the ball really well and like I even did miss some short ones, but made the ones that I feel like I needed to to keep the momentum going, and just kept it going all day.
Q. Hit a lot of fairways out here; pretty generous fairways out here. Does that give you more freedom off the tee you feel like?
JENNIFER KUPCHO: Yeah, I think especially with my length it definitely opens it up as well being able to take out some of the bunkers.
But, yeah, I think it definitely helps to have shots from the fairway going into the firm greens.
Q. And then eagle on 18. A lot of birdies on that back side. What was going on out there?
JENNIFER KUPCHO: Yeah, started off really well. I played the back first. Yeah, just started out really well. Sunk like probably a 50- or 60-footer on 18, so that was kind of fun.
Q. Putting, I know this golf course, greens are undulated. What have you seen with the lines this week or maybe how are you breaking the greens down to be able to capitalize on some of those opportunities?
JENNIFER KUPCHO: I think just hitting it close. I think I kind of realized during the off week last week that maybe I was under-reading a lot of putts. So I was reading them myself, so kind of calling my caddie, Josh, in a couple times just to tell me, yeah, your line is good. You're reading it good. That gives me confidence to put a good stroke on it.
Q. Made that eagle and flipped to the front side; long putt. How do you get the adrenaline out of your system and get ready to play another nine holes?
JENNIFER KUPCHO: I don't know. Kind of just keep going. Yeah, I guess I kind of flagged one over the green on the first hole, so, yeah, maybe a little bit of adrenaline; didn't adjust for it. The wind was downwind so could be either or.
Yeah, kind of just settled down after that, after I made that bogey. Just got back to it.
Q. You're one of 24 players that have won in 23 events this season. Obviously a slew now looking to become the first multiple-time winner this season. Can speak to the parity out here this year? What's it like to play right now when anybody can win any given week it feels like?
JENNIFER KUPCHO: I feel like it's always been like that. In general this year we have a lot of really good rookies. We have a lot of young players coming out. So I mean, while I'm still young I feel like I'm old, so yeah, just trying to keep up with all the young rookies coming out.
I've kind of realized I think this year that I've got to work harder to keep up with what's coming out. That's just a little bit different mindset.
Q. How do you do that? What have you had to add and change to your routine to try and keep up with the youngsters?
JENNIFER KUPCHO: Again, it's like going back to rookie year, time management, like trying to make sure I'm taking care of my body that's maybe not feeling as young as it used to. Also making sure I get to the range and work on my putting, specific spots I need to work on. That maybe my body needs rest, but I also know I need to practice as well.
Q. How did you realize you were under-reading greens?
JENNIFER KUPCHO: Just last week playing. I played a couple rounds. I had a couple friends come into town and we played a couple rounds. I think just having Jay be my partner, my husband be my partner for those couple rounds he was like, why you keep missing them low?
He stood behind and was like, maybe you should read a little higher. That's kind of how it spanned. I went to the putting green after that and worked on it with him. Being able to have him look at my putting stroke and say it's good, you're just under-reading it, is helpful as well.
Q. On that note, does it help having a second set of eyes that knows what it's like out here to look at things like that?
JENNIFER KUPCHO: Yeah, and I think he knows my game really well. Even though he's not out here on the course with me here in tournaments, obviously we practice a lot together, play a lot together in the off weeks.
Yeah, he definitely knows my game, so I trust him a lot to know what he's looking at least.
Q. How do you build on this? Got two more rounds and a spot at the top of the leaderboard.
JENNIFER KUPCHO: Yeah, I mean, obviously lot of golf. I'm sure it'll continue to firm up as the weekend goes on. Just keep hitting good shots and hopefully make some putts.
