Quick Quotes
Q. All right, here with Minjee Lee after the second round of the Kroger Queen City Championship presented by P&G. 5-under 67. Walk us through your day today.
MINJEE LEE: Yeah, it was pretty solid. I think I kind of kept my momentum going to making birdies after a few holes after bogeys. So I think I did a pretty good job of keeping -- I mean, trying to keep up with all the low scores out there.
It's nice to have posted a score this morning and have the afternoon off.
Q. And then a lot of scores, good scores this week; people hitting a lot of fairways. How important is that out here?
MINJEE LEE: Yeah, it's not super tight so I think obviously having shots into the greens from the fairways, it's going to be beneficial. If you're on the fairways you can spin it better. There is a lot of undulation on the greens so I think if you're in the right places you will have a lot of good looks for birdie.
Q. A lot of eagles this week. Just how important is it to take care of the par-5s out there?
MINJEE LEE: Yeah, we have a couple par-5s that are reachable. I think 18 is also reachable. I hit 7-wood today. So I think there is going to be a lot of low scoring on the par-5s this whole week.
I think the fairways are drying up a little bit so you're getting more roll on the fairways and then having shorter clubs in. Yeah, I think over the course of the weekend it will just get faster and faster.
Q. For you, how are you breaking down these greens to make sure you put yourself in the right positions to capitalize?
MINJEE LEE: Yeah, for me, I think I just try and obviously go process by process, and just first thing is to hit the fairway. I think there are some I guess angles into the greens that are easier than some of the holes. There is like hazards in front of the greens, and if you're coming from the left side to the right pin it's going to be easier than coming from the right side of the fairway to a right pin.
So if you can put yourself in the right spots you're going to have shorter irons and just a little better lines into the greens.
Q. Seems like we've talked about it since you captured the third major. How much fun is golf right now? Seems like you're enjoying yourself and very carefree out there?
MINJEE LEE: My style of play is very relaxed. Obviously I'm quite competitive inside but I'm not really outwardly like that. So I think I have a quiet confidence in my game at the moment, and I feel like I've had a few good weeks under my belt.
So I have that momentum to like carry me week in and, week out. No, I feel like I'm in a really nice place right now.
Q. As somebody that's won this event before, he fun to be back in front of a Cincinnati crowd? Had?
MINJEE LEE: Yeah, obviously at Kenwood was a little bit different. But, yeah, I mean, I still enjoy this golf course. I feel like there was a couple more people who came out today. It was hot yesterday afternoon, so I understand.
But, no, I mean, I've been enjoying my week so far. We always get a great turn out I think here. Definitely over the weekend there will be many more fans out and about.
So I'm excited for that.
Q. You mentioned knowing that there would be low scores and a lot of birdies out there. Do you feel like you have to fight a tendency to come out of your routine to try to keep pace with what you're seeing?
MINJEE LEE: I feel like at times you're looking at the leaderboard and there are so many scores are bunched. I think maybe 6-under is 15th or 16th or something and you have one shot better is you're 8th.
I feel like it is very stacked, but there are opportunities out there. I think for me, it's just being aggressive because the course allows you to be like that and be in that kind of mindset.
I think also trying not to get ahead of yourself and be patient when you miss a shorter putt. There are always going to be opportunities on the next hole or next few holes to get them back.
Q. How would you compare the conditions today to what you faced yesterday?
MINJEE LEE: There was only one hole that really bounced, but I think it was pretty similar. I didn't feel like it was that firm yesterday afternoon. I think that is kind of coming because it's quite dry out there now.
I think by tomorrow it's going to be nice and dry. Maybe the greens will be a little bit firmer and faster come the weekend. I'm not sure how tricky they want to have the course.
We all love a challenge.
No, I think the afternoon yesterday and morning today was not too much of a difference. Maybe just early in the day the driver wasn't going as far.
