Quick Quotes
Q. Joined now by Patty Tavatanakit after her first round at the Kroger Queen City Championship. Great round from you today, especially the ending. Take us through it.
PATTY TAVATANAKIT: I pushed it. I pushed my 7-iron to like a foot. So I wasn't trying to hit there but ended up being really good.
Q. Yeah. What about the course kind of suits your game and allowed you to go so low?
PATTY TAVATANAKIT: Yeah, it's a pretty -- it's a fairly wide course. It's very gettable, but there are some trickiness to it. The greens are really (indiscernible) quite a bit, especially in the afternoon. Wind swirls and then there is a lot of holes where the compass is saying one thing but the wind is doing the other thing.
I think I was just really committed to all my shots today; although it was challenging, yeah.
Q. You were very accurate of the tee; 13 of 14 fairways hit. Is that the key to success out there?
PATTY TAVATANAKIT: Yeah, definitely. I feel like I haven't hit this good in a while. I played this course back when Epson had their event here. I think it was my second event like when I turned pro.
Just brings back a lot of memory of playing free and just like not careless but innocence where, yeah, let's just to your best and let's see what's going to happen.
Q. How would you describe how you used to play on Epson versus how you feel like you're playing now?
PATTY TAVATANAKIT: I think on Epson I didn't really have a fixed like ball flight on I have to hit draws or I have to hit fades. It was just like whatever works. I was hitting fairly straight, if not like a little fade during Epson season.
But then as time progressed I was more drawn to the draw ball flight and I feel like I was just trying to chase it the past couple years. It was just like making a lot of stuff harder than it is.
So this week I was just kind of -- I mean, every since I kind of in Boston, too, I just found my click off the tee with the ball flight of just being committed and knowing it's going either going to go straight or follow right, so, yeah.
Q. Is that what has changed in recent weeks? You got your second top 10 of the season in Canada. Is that what's changed in the latter half of the season?
PATTY TAVATANAKIT: No. I drove it horribly in Canada to be honest with you. I just putted really well that week.
Yeah, it's progressing that way. I feel like my swing is at a good swing for a while now. I just haven't found like that click of ball flight and commitment and just like feeling free.
I feel like this season has been a little bit stressful and it was just no one else to blame but myself, so it's nice to see some good finishes. Even today like I didn't even try to do anything. I was just trying to go out there and play golf and do my best at every given moment and I don't know what's going to happen. A great round happened, so, yeah.
Q. What did you feel like has been the biggest challenge over the season for you?
PATTY TAVATANAKIT: I feel like I don't -- I haven't played that bad. My highs aren't as high as before. My lows are just like not as low as well.
So it is like -- honestly I have never had a year like this before where you feel like everything is there but then like putting it together, it's either like lights out, play well, or like not even close at all.
So I think I'm at a good spot. A lot of things are being put in perspective. Yeah, just I'm a little older. I'm not sure if I'm wiser, but just trying to play more freely.
