Quick Quotes
Q. Here with Nelly Korda after her first round at the Kroger Queen City Championship presented by P&G. Really solid round for you today. Just what was working so well?
NELLY KORDA: Yeah, kind of everything. You know, made a couple putts here and there. Overall, yeah, just kind of everything was flowing and the weather was great. There was really no wind.
So with kind of the saturated conditions, a little softer, you could be a little bit more aggressive.
Q. This is an event is one of our better fields outside of the majors. What is it about the area, event, the course, that brings out yourself and other stars on our Tour?
NELLY KORDA: One, it flows great with our schedule. Two, I don't know, we get some great fans. People are really friendly here. The course is great. There is a lot of good that comes with this event, so you always kind of want to come back.
Q. You had a solid finish here last year as well. What have you learned you have to do well around this golf course to be successful?
NELLY KORDA: I would say you have to be fairly aggressive on the par-5s. A lot of the par-5s are pretty gettable, so making sure you capitalize on them if you have the length.
Just be aggressive. Last year was a little bit firmer and faster. I know they've had a bit of a weird summer with it raining at the start and then being really dry, so there is some patchy areas. So it was definitely a little softer this year, had a little bit longer clubs in to what we had last year, or just speaking for me.
But, yeah, you just have to be kind of aggressive with the clubs into the greens with it being soft because you just know that the scores are going to be low, and the weather is really good typically this time of year here.
Q. Take us through that opening stretch. A little up and down start. Seemed to kind of settle in and find something as the round went on.
NELLY KORDA: Yeah, my first birdie I hit a really great shot in; reachable par-5. Kind of let my iron loose out to the right and I didn't make a five-footer for par.
And then the next hole I made a longer putt and then the next hole I chunked a wedge into the bunker and it plugged, so that was great.
Just up and down a good bit and then got it back to under par.
Q. What do you say to yourself when you get off to a start like that?
NELLY KORDA: Just rollercoaster. That's golf. I was hitting it good and I was putting really well, so I just stayed patient.
