Q. Great start, take us through the round?

TOM VAILLANT: Yeah, it was a nice round. It was a wake-up at 3.50, and then it was very nice. I played well. I tried to stay patient and give me opportunities because I know I'm playing well the last couple weeks. So it showed that I can go low, so that's nice.

Q. You mentioned the early start, and you were out in the first group. What were conditions like early on?

TOM VAILLANT: It was not really windy, so that was the main thing. There was no wind. Sometimes playing quite early is easy.

Q. How difficult is it for you when you think your game is trending in the right direction to wait for a score like this to come?

TOM VAILLANT: It's not easy every time because I have a lot of opportunities and I'm missing putts. You can't hole everything but it can be frustrating.

But if you have a lot of birdie putts, you're playing well and you have to take the positive. That's what I was doing today and it went in. The scores are going down quite a lot, so that's nice.

Q. Was that the one thing that stood out today in particular is your putting and that's turned around your game?

TOM VAILLANT: I hit 16 greens today and no short-side, and that helps staying steady all day, being on the fat side all day long and having good pace on the putt and let the things come.

Q. How do you build on a round like this? Always difficult to follow up a low one with another low one.

TOM VAILLANT: I have no idea. I'll just have some rest and a good nap this afternoon and get ready for tomorrow. That's the main strategy, hitting as much greens as I can and staying steady on the fat side and having the right pace.
