Quick Quotes

Q. We already knew you're a world-class player who routinely competed at majors and the top ends of the very best leaderboards but how much did two weeks ago do for self-belief than anything?

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: I don't know, I think there was definitely a bit of relief there that I finally got that one done. Again, you learn from every experience. I learned from the tough times, the times where it didn't happen and I learned from the time it did happen.

To be honest it wasn't loads of difference in any of them. This was just my time to walk through the gaping door that presented itself to my.

Yeah, it's nice to finally have done that. Still I very much feel the same and I know where my game is at and where I want to improve and where I want to keep going. But yeah, I finally, I suppose you go through steps and things you want to tick off in your career and that one does mean a lot.

Q. You already know how universally you were loved as well but did the outpouring of emotion surprise even you?

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: Yeah, it was amazed, it really, really was and I'm forever grateful for the support that I get.

Yeah, the amount of people -- that story, they kind of became invested in the story, personally and emotionally invested. To see how many people it touched and how many people were a part of it, it was so cool and quite overwhelming. That, for me, means more than anything like win, just the amount of people that became part of it in supporting me through that and were so amazing about it.

Q. This week you get to have a homecoming in front of home fans and there will be so much support you. Rory had that last week playing in front of the Irish fans. He said the fans over here are here to watch the golf and appreciate you so much.

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: Yeah, it's such a great event for us and getting the home support is amazing. I hope I give them something good to watch. Yeah, this is one of our favourite tournaments. It's our Flagship Event.

I think the crowds have always been unbelievably supportive and amazing, and I just love trying to hit like great golf shots and having those special moments in front of all these guys because they have become such a part of it. Very excited to be here.

Q. This week is a huge event itself, and then Sunday night, you all jump on a plane and head out to Bethpage for the team trip. I know how important the one was for Rome. How beneficial can this be, as well?

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: No. 1, it's exciting just to be with everyone and be with the team and get together. We are like firmly in Ryder Cup season and there's Ryder Cup all over the TV and I love that. I love watching that stuff. I love being part of the process now that is like the team is set and the Ryder Cup is coming up. I think Sunday and next week, the practise days are a huge part of it.

But getting the juices flowing and getting together, it's the best feeling and it feels so, so good. This practise trip will be great for us. Rome, it worked well, and I think Luke has always done such a good job of being right on cue with what we need and what we're doing. This practise trip will be another one of those, and hopefully it does serve us well, yeah.

Q. The fact that it's the same backroom team, 11 of the 12 players, and one twin swapped in or the other, how much of a head start do you think that maybe gives you at this time?

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: I think every Ryder Cup that you play, right at the end of it, you are like, how good would it be to just keep the team and go again. You always say that but it never happens.

But this time, yeah, to have us all together and to have the experience and to have the team connection last time and moving on to this one, hopefully it will serve as a good thing for us and serve as an advantage, and excited to be with all the guys.

Yeah, I think, of course, every time the team is set, you couldn't ask for a better 12 guys, and we're just all ready to go into that together and try to get the Ryder Cup.
