Quick Quotes
Q. When you come to a tournament like this, so steeped in history, all the past champions and you walk these fairways, you must feel like you're walking in their footsteps all the time?
JON RAHM: In a weird way, yeah. In a sense, yeah. It's hard not to picture some of the great moments in the history of this course walking down those fairways.
I think every time I get to 17, at least once or twice a week, I think of Seve's comment to the photographer, right. Was it the fruitcake incident here, as well? I'm not sure. I'm not sure. But that always comes to mind, as well. Seems like it was here, a few of the great moments of the past, Alex Noren, 10-under on Sunday, Luke winning back-to-back.
It's a lot of great history and great memories that I'm very fond of, I don't know, this weird can be understood in a weird way. This course is traditional, like what I grow up, doglegs left and right, you don't need to hit driver hard every time. It makes you think a little bit and makes you choose what you want to do off the tee and that makes it a really fun golf course.
Q. How beneficial is it for the likes of yourself and Tyrrell to see these guys that you don't get to see that often?
JON RAHM: It's not like I saw them that often before. Mainly PGA TOUR schedule, and not all of us played in the same weeks. Players like Tyrrell or somebody, I didn't see Tyrrell that often. It was predominately at the DP World Tour events. Bob, as well, was one of them, the Højgaard brothers. I didn't spend that much time. It doesn't feel that different to me.
I guess the opportunities are less where we do see each other and spend time but luckily this week seems like any other year.
Q. This tournament is a huge tournament in its own right but you're hopping on a plane Sunday night and heading to Bethpage. What are the anticipation levels?
JON RAHM: About the same. Luckily the team is similar. Same face, different name, with the Højgaards, I guess. And Rasmus was part of the Ryder Cup, as well, last time, was he was there with Nicolai and Thomas. I think we are already a step ahead in that sense than we were in Rome.
But I'm sure we're going to do some of it, the same little routines that we did in Rome that got the team really close together. We are all going to be fairly tired Monday morning but I think it's going to be a lot of fun to spend those two days together and get an idea of what the week is going to be like.
Q. You talk about the continuity in the team. How much of a head start does that give you?
JON RAHM: I don't know how though define it. For the most part we all know each other. So I think we just get maybe the nerves out of the way, right. The first time you see each other and being in the team hotel already a week earlier, that familiarity that we're already going to have, maybe it will make it easier but when it's Monday of the Ryder Cup, it's Monday of the Ryder Cup, right, especially now.
I think just having done it, even if it's a week before, it should make it a little bit easier.
