US OPEN

August 23, 2025

Amanda Anisimova

New York, New York, USA

Press Conference

An interview with:

AMANDA ANISIMOVA

THE MODERATOR: Amanda, just your thoughts on coming into the US Open, especially now being a Grand Slam finalist.

AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Yeah, I'm super excited to get started here. I love the US Open. The energy here is unmatched, honestly.

So, yeah, I'm just looking forward to getting started with the first day and to compete.

THE MODERATOR: Questions.

Q. I wonder what you can take from that Wimbledon run that applies here. I know it's a different tournament and setting, but what do you want to make sure you have in your mind this time having had that experience of being a finalist?

AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Well, I'm just taking it obviously one match at a time. I mean, I haven't even started the tournament yet.

Yeah, I think just having that experience and experiencing what that final was like definitely gives me some thoughts and, like, certain things that I can bring with me going into this tournament, especially dealing with the stress and the tension of it being, like, a home slam, and there is a little bit of pressure on me.

Yeah, I think just the way that the final went, it gave me a better perspective on how I should be handling my nerves.

Q. How did reaching the Wimbledon final change your life?

AMANDA ANISIMOVA: I wouldn't say it really, like, changed my life. Obviously it was remarkable achievement and experience. Yeah, I had a great time there. It was sort of like a dream come true.

Obviously I didn't win, and that's always the goal obviously. I really want to win my first Grand Slam. But obviously making the final was still really positive, and I can still take away a lot of things from it.

But, yeah, to answer your question, I think overall it just gave me more confidence, and I can be proud of myself for reaching my first slam final.

Q. What's your summer been like? How has it differed from the past because of what you accomplished there?

AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Yeah, I mean, I think that there has been a little more attention on me. Yeah, I mean, I'm a top-10 player now so things are obviously different technically.

But I still obviously feel like the same person. Nothing's really changed on that front. I'm still striving for more and more. Yeah, I'm just constantly trying to work on getting better every day, and how can I improve. So the mindset and everything I was doing six months or before Wimbledon is still the same.

Q. Ten years ago you won the juniors here, and you crushed Coco.

AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Oh, my God, it was so long ago.

Q. That's what I want to know. Did you ever think back and realize it's been ten years since you won the juniors? I know you needed ten match points to do it. Do you think about that match and sort of your journey?

AMANDA ANISIMOVA: I don't like thinking about how, like, long ago certain things were. It makes me really sad to see how fast time is going by.

But yeah, it's really special, like, coming back. I always think about the junior tournament and ending my junior career on that note, which was really special.

Yeah, that was the only junior slam I had ever won. And for it to be US Open was even more special. I remember, like, the court I played on. Like, every time I practice on Grandstand, I get a little bit of that memory, which is cute.

But yeah, it's crazy to think how far I have come since then. And also Coco, I mean, we were, like, babies in that final and we are doing really well now, so it's good to see.

Q. Watching players practice, it's always a bit amusing to me when the practice hour is up and the other player is coming onto the court. Sometimes the player on court clearly doesn't want to get off court. They still have forehands to hit and want to do more things. Is that situation ever awkward maybe when you're waiting and the person just won't get off the court?

AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Well, I think it depends. If there is still two minutes left, I think that person has the ability to keep playing until the time is up. I think most players end up doing that. We have the clock right there, so when we see the hour is done, we, like, get off the court.

But yeah, we are used to people walking back and forth in the fence area often. Yeah, I don't think anybody really cares because everyone is just so focused on their training and getting everything done.

I was one of those people this morning. I was done with my practice but I had, like, my coach feed me an extra five or ten balls because there were still two minutes left.

Q. Ever have an experience people going over and eating into your practice time? Say it's 1:00 p.m., and they're still trying to hit at 1:02, 1:03.

AMANDA ANISIMOVA: That's obviously like pretty annoying. It's definitely happened, but it's on them for them to finish and notice that their time is done. But it's nothing you can really do.

Q. You mentioned the Wimbledon final a couple of times. I'm wondering, are you keen to play Iga again, just to have a different experience, or was that not something you're even thinking about?

AMANDA ANISIMOVA: You mean in this tournament, or...

Q. Whenever. Kind of as soon as possible, or...

AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Yeah, I mean, it would be great to have a rematch and to play against Iga again. She obviously brings such a high level and such a challenge. I am someone who really enjoys that.

Yeah, it's definitely a challenge I want to take on again, and hopefully I can bring a better level and, you know, play like myself out there next time I play her.

But yeah, we have had some practices, and it's always super high level when we play against each other. Yeah, I mean, any top player that I get to play is obviously going to be a great challenge and a great experience. So if I get to play her again soon, that would be great.

Q. A bit more of a frivolous question. This summer, have you had in your free time been listening to anything, music or watching any movies, watching any TV shows you have been enjoying?

AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Yeah, I don't know if I should even be saying this, but I watched The Hunting Wives. Then I was on the plane. It's so funny how the title is so similar to this other show I watch, but it's called The Hunting Party. It's one of the TV shows on American Airlines. It's actually really good. I have been enjoying it.

And yeah, I just like mostly listen to house music. I've been listening to the same three songs every single day. I don't know if there is something wrong with me or if there is anybody else who does that. Until I get sick of them, I have to listen to the same songs over and over. And I won't connect to the car, because I can't play the same song over and over.

Q. What are the songs?

AMANDA ANISIMOVA: They are like these three remix songs, like house songs.
