US OPEN

August 25, 2025

Benjamin Bonzi

New York, New York, USA

Press Conference

B. BONZI/D. Medvedev

6-3, 7-5, 6-7, 0-6, 6-4

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. Daniil was in here earlier and said he didn't do anything wrong during that six-minute delay. I'm just curious what you saw during that six-minute delay on match point in the third set, and whether or not there was a thought at all for you to just serve when the crowd was booing.

BENJAMIN BONZI: Yeah, it was tough. Like, it was so noisy, so I never thought to wait so long before point and between points. Well, it was a situation, very weird, and then obviously it's tough to, like, refocus on the game, to play. And even during the points it was very noisy, so it was tough to hear the ball, the strikes and everything.

Yeah, it was tough.

Q. You said how tough it was to refocus. How I guess proud of yourself are you then that several hours later you arrived at a match point again knowing you had one and actually converted it and won when the match had gone so badly in the fourth set? How do you summarize that?

BENJAMIN BONZI: Yes, of course, I'm very proud of myself, the scenario of the match, the match point in the third. Then Daniil playing great and taking, like, full advantage on the fourth. I was not in my best physically in the fifth. I tried to fought very hard to give all I had. I saw that he was not maybe at his best too.

Yeah, it's kind of crazy, this match. For me it's like my best victory ever. It's very special to do it here.

Like, once again, I never felt that way on the court, and I'm very proud, like, to fight like I did in the final set.

Q. During that long delay, I saw you went to the umpire, and it seemed like you said that it was kind of his fault for, you know, extending it. Do you think his behavior crossed the line today?

BENJAMIN BONZI: The behavior of who?

Q. Daniil.

BENJAMIN BONZI: Yes. Yes. I mean, the rule is the rule. The guy went on the court between two serves. I mean, it's not my call to say first serve. And I think, yes, Daniil started it, and he put oil on the fire.

He went with the crowd crazy. He went with them. Yeah, it was, like, honestly I never saw that.

Q. In general, have you ever experienced something like that whole situation in your career?

BENJAMIN BONZI: No, maybe in football stadium, but not in tennis.

Q. How angry were you in this moment and towards Daniil or towards the whole...

BENJAMIN BONZI: I was not angry. Actually, I was trying to stay focused, to stay in the moment. At that time I had only one point to win to finish the match, and then even when I got break and he came back to 5-All, you cannot lose time to, like, get angry on him or whatever.

I mean, if I get angry, I won't play great. Then the match is over. So the main goal is to stay in the match, to stay in the moment and, yeah, try to reset and go for it.

Q. You were holding the balls. You could have gone, even when the crowd is crazy, to go hit a serve. You had time, I guess.

BENJAMIN BONZI: Yeah, yeah, I had time, but it's very difficult in tennis to play when you don't hear the sound of the ball, of the strokes, and I don't like that.

I was in a great position. It was a match point. Yeah, I mean, every time I went on the line to serve and every time I did that, everyone was booing. I felt I didn't do anything bad in the match to, like, receive this treatment, and I didn't want to serve in those conditions. So I was, like, waiting.
