Press Conference

J. SINNER/F. Auger-Aliassime

6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4

THE MODERATOR: Congratulations on a great run.

FELIX AUGER-ALIASSIME: Thank you.

THE MODERATOR: Questions.

Q. First of all, just curious, you played a great match today and it was tight. How close do you feel to a player like Jannik after both this performance and the way you've played throughout this week?

FELIX AUGER-ALIASSIME: Future will tell. Future will tell. I don't want to, like, make too many predictions. Tonight, yeah, I just want to take a moment to soak in the tournament and everything that was good.

You obviously build your future with what's good in you, and then you try to improve a little bit step by step. So I'm just trying to take that all in.

But to say how close my level is, yeah, we were fighting out there. We had some good points. I was going toe to toe at times, some sets dominating. Of course, I feel competitive, but the future will tell how close I am.

Q. What were you most pleased with about your performances the past couple of weeks?

FELIX AUGER-ALIASSIME: Well, a lot of things. A lot of things. Because obviously there's the level, like the way I'm serving, the way I hit the forehand, the way I'm moving around the court, the backhand too. There's many things.

But I think on top of that it's just, yeah, the belief, the mentality, the conviction in myself that I have what it takes to win these type of matches. Even in tough matches, like the quarterfinals, there were probably times where I was playing my worst, so to speak. It was still good, but my worst throughout the tournament.

But I was still believing that my time will come and I will play at a good level again. I think those kind of matches are gratifying for me. Yeah, I think the mentality is something that I've been working on and that was good this week.

Q. Just in the third set, it looked like you were hampered physically. Were you okay? Were you 100%?

FELIX AUGER-ALIASSIME: Yeah, I'm okay. I'm okay. I mean, it's long tournaments and tough matches. Yeah, I don't really want to focus on that. There's obviously going to be struggles throughout the tournament, but at the end, you know, it happens.

Credit to him for also handling the situation maybe better than me, and looking forward, I'm going to get back in these situations hopefully and then see how I can handle them better.

Q. What did you think about the crowd tonight? Did you at times feel like you were playing at home?

FELIX AUGER-ALIASSIME: Kind of. It was good. It was good. I mean, I understand. I have my perspective as a player, but I understand the perspective from the fans, too, watching. Jannik, you know, all credit to him. He's been dominating on hard courts, but I mean, kind of everywhere.

Yeah, I mean, I think my story was a little bit different this tournament. I think people have known my name around tennis, but it's like, okay, yeah, it was a good story as long as it went on. It stopped tonight, but I'm very pleased to come back home knowing that the crowd wanted me to go on and to keep playing well and to keep enjoying myself on the court.

Q. I just wondered what you found his level compared to when you played a few weeks ago in Cincinnati? He talked about how much better you played. Was it that simple? You just brought it tonight?

FELIX AUGER-ALIASSIME: Yeah, I played much better. I served much better. It was weird. In Cincinnati, we hadn't played in years, and it was like I was caught by surprise, in a way. We hadn't practiced, imagine, once in three years. So there's one thing to watch a guy, but to be on the court with him and just the way he was returning, how fast he was playing, it just caught me off guard a little bit.

Then, you know, once you go down, it's also two out of three, and I went down quickly. So it affected my game. But tonight, I was, like, okay, I knew what to expect. He still had a great start, but I had much more belief that as the match would go on, I would find a good level and be competitive.

Q. I'm just wondering, have you got any regrets at the end of this match, because there were some close situations, especially at the beginning of the fourth set. I think you had five break points. Didn't manage to convert them.

FELIX AUGER-ALIASSIME: Yeah, that's tough. I can explain all of them to you, but it's over. I got caught by a slow second serve. I mean, I kind of pulled the trigger on a forehand. Could have went in. If it goes in, maybe I'm in a fifth set, maybe not. I don't know.

I don't have regrets. I played my way. I played my game. You know, you kind of live and die with your choices, you know?

Q. Have you resolved your tailor-fitting schedule?

FELIX AUGER-ALIASSIME: No (laughing). No, I was on court, man. You expect that I was on the phone call, like, immediately after the loss and figuring that out. No, I'll figure it out tomorrow, yeah.

Q. Do you plan to play the Davis cup?

FELIX AUGER-ALIASSIME: Again, I have to talk with my team and with my fiancee, as well. She might have a word in this (laughing). Jokes aside, we'll see. But for sure, yeah, I think the wedding is the next big thing.
