US OPEN

September 6, 2025

Jeline Vandromme

New York, New York, USA

Press Conference

J. VANDROMME/L. Nilsson

7-6, 6-2

THE MODERATOR: Congratulations. If you would, can you give me your thoughts on the match?

JELINE VANDROMME: Yeah, I think I played a very good opponent, to start with. Lea played an incredible week and today also.

I had a bit of nerves before the match, I would say, but I think I handled them good. I tried to play my level, my game, and it worked out really great. I managed to win the match, the title, so that feels pretty amazing (laughing).

THE MODERATOR: Congratulations. Questions.

Q. You were down again 2-Love and then 4-2 as well. Did all the success that you've had help you through that particular situation?

JELINE VANDROMME: Yeah. I mean, I just tried to not, I mean, like, focus on the fact that I'm 2-4 or Love-2 down. I just tried to focus on every point, every shot that I make, on my plan, and my tasks on court.

Then, yeah, I kind of forgot the score. I mean, I'm just trying to play every point and doing what I have to do. Then I don't have, like, extra pressure or I don't feel like the negative emotions coming up when I'm down, so yeah.

Q. As you're getting toward the end of the match, do you ever let yourself think forward, like, oh, my gosh, I'm two points away from winning the US Open trophy?

JELINE VANDROMME: It happens, yeah (laughing).

Q. How do you kind of pull that in?

JELINE VANDROMME: Already after I won the first set, you are, like, okay, you won the first set, let's go for another one. No, then I'm just, like, okay, I started the first set, which is my plan and my task. I just need to be disciplined and keep doing that instead of focusing on results.

Yeah, I mean, I just try to keep my mind busy so that I don't think about those things, like the results or the title.

Q. Congratulations on 23 victories in a row now. She said she was feeling physically a little tired in the second set a little bit. You've played so much singles and doubles this week. How were you feeling physically today, and did you feel any fatigue or soreness or pain in the match there?

JELINE VANDROMME: No, I don't think so. Like, maybe because of the adrenaline, then I don't feel anything. But, yeah, I mean, of course you start to feel the legs a bit when you go, like, far into the tournament, like in the final now.

Yeah, when the adrenaline takes over, then all I just felt was energy. Yeah, the will to win every point was so big that I don't felt any fatigue or pain, I think (laughing).

Q. You win the singles. You've still got the doubles looming. What did you do between the matches to kind of recover and get ready to compete again so quickly?

JELINE VANDROMME: Well, I didn't have so much time, so the only thing I did was just, like, go get a shower, change clothes, and then eat on the bike. Then it was already time to go on court.

So it was, like, I finished my singles, and then I was, like, okay, switching focus to doubles.

Q. Did you know about the impending rain?

JELINE VANDROMME: Yeah, I think that's why we got, like, so limited time. Yeah, but we finished the doubles right before the rain, so it's like good and bad timing because we lost (laughing).

Q. You lost in the first round at Wimbledon and Roland Garros. When you went on that huge winning streak just at the end of July and now, did you ever consider saying, Well, I don't need to play this last one, or were you always wanting to play this last junior event?

JELINE VANDROMME: I mean, yeah, I was thinking about it, too, whether I should play it or not. Yeah, the junior Grand Slams are always something different. If it would be my last one, I just wanted to try to make it a memorable one. I mean, that kind of worked.

But, no, also here at the US Open especially, it's like very nice and energetic to play here. I actually really wanted to come here.

Q. What does it mean to you to win this title and to wrap up your time, like, at the junior slams with this?

JELINE VANDROMME: Yeah, the timing was supposed to be -- it's going to be, I think, my last junior tournament, and to be able to win this one is, like, it makes me incredibly proud. Also, it was, like, 22 years ago the last Belgian that won the title. It's also a huge honor for my country. That makes me proud as well.

Q. Tell me what was going through your mind, Jeline, on match point right before, and then when you finally won. And do you think you'll hear from Kirsten Flipkens after this?

JELINE VANDROMME: She already texted me, but I haven't got the time to really go through the text and answer everyone. But, no, she already texted me. She also texted me before the match, so that was really nice.

What was going through my mind, I was serving, I think. Hit serve in, try to be aggressive like you did the whole match. Those things. I tried to not think about results.

Q. (Off microphone.)

JELINE VANDROMME: I was, yeah, just incredibly proud of what I've just done and I've done the whole week, yeah, and just I was honored to win this title for myself, but also a bit for the country.

Q. You had a nice moment at the net, too. Did you all exchange words?

JELINE VANDROMME: At the net when the match was finished, I told her -- I mean, she told, Congrats on a good week. I said, Yeah, the level that you showed this week coming from quallies making it to the final, it's also something to be proud of.

Then I think she was, like -- when we were doing the ceremony, I think she was crying a bit, and I wanted to hug her and said, like, Okay, you can be very proud. I mean, I know it's probably tough to lose like this in the final if you've come this far. But, yeah, I mean, she's also incredibly kind next to the court. So I just wanted to make sure that she knows she could be proud.
