September 6, 2025

Niall Shiels Donegan

Pebble Beach, California, USA

Cypress Point Club

GB&I Quick Quotes

Q. There was obviously not much between the two of you, was there.

NIALL SHIELS DONEGAN: Yeah, it seems that way. Both matches going 18, 19, both of them. I think today what separated me is just the wedge. I made up-and-down from what seemed like everywhere, and when I wasn't on the green, I holed out a little bit.

But yeah, it was just a grind today, and just glad I kept myself in it.

Q. How hard was it to sit this morning?

NIALL SHIELS DONEGAN: It's always hard to sit, especially when you're playing something as big as the Walker Cup. But I think Ian Poulter said it best in our team talk a couple nights ago. Ego stops at the door. We're wearing the lion, we're wearing the badge. Whatever Dean thinks is best is best for the team. Just go out there, support as much as you can in the morning and do your job in the afternoon.

Q. You started slowing down at some point. Did your caddie say something or did you just realize -- because you were in a great rhythm.

NIALL SHIELS DONEGAN: I think I tried to mix up my pace a little bit. I felt pretty comfortable going at whatever pace I was, and I felt like he almost wanted to play a little bit slower. Especially when I was down, I was trying to keep it at my comfortable pace or a little bit quick, and after 15, the up-and-down there, I wanted to get it slow because I felt comfortable with that tee shot, and I just wanted to play my game.

Q. How much do you learn what's going on with other matches? The U.S. won four in a row to get a 5-3 lead. Are you aware of the scores? Is someone telling you that? Or are you in your own bubble?

NIALL SHIELS DONEGAN: I saw the leaderboard on 11, off to the left of 11. It didn't look great for us. What everyone else is doing doesn't really matter. I've got one job to do. I can't control what anyone else is going to do. I've just got to work as hard as I can to get the point.
