GB&I Quick Quotes
Q. Off to a pretty good start in the morning. Talk to us about what you were seeing, what went well out there for the team.
DEAN ROBERTSON: I think a lot of great golf. The players, the caliber of the players in the top matches speaks for itself in terms of where they stand in the amateur game of golf. I think Connor Graham and Tyler Weaver, they had a strong pairing, and Tommy Morrison and Jackson, for them to birdie 13, 14, 15 clutch up was huge.
There was a real tricky pin on 17 on that front side, and they just leaked it to the right, and we managed to keep it left of the hole, which was great. That was massive to get momentum.
Game 2, Charlie Forster and Luke Poulter, they're a real strong pairing. They have been -- they're undefeated right through the whole summer, and they remain undefeated, and they've got momentum.
That last game there, that was the two Oklahoma State boys, Preston and Ethan. I've seen a lot of Ethan this summer like in the Amateur Championship. He's a phenomenal putter, phenomenal players. We're thrilled to win -- it's only one session, it's a foursomes session, but it gives us a little bit of momentum, and momentum in team play is absolutely key.
We go again, it's 0-0, just reset, and be ready for the singles this afternoon.
Q. Could you feel that lead-off match, once those guys made those few birdies and took control of that match, could you feel amongst the rest of the matches out there that there was just a little bit more pep?
DEAN ROBERTSON: You know, there's waves of momentum. We talked about it the other night with Luke's dad, with Ian, and he talked about Medinah was almost gone. But for the guys it's all about keeping their feet where they are, being in the moment and not getting ahead of yourself. This is two days; this is session one, and there's 18 singles matches to go, and the U.S. Team are absolutely stacked right through all the players, so we need to play well this afternoon and build on that momentum.
So it's been a good morning. We won't be getting -- we're under absolutely no illusions the task at hand. The goal is 13.5, and that's what we're -- we've now made three points, so we've got 10.5 to go now.
Q. Can you speak to Stewart Hagestad and his play on this team and what he's meant to this group, having a little bit of a different perspective on things?
DEAN ROBERTSON: I think he brings a bit of -- they're pretty much kids, and he brings a little bit of maturity, but he's not just the only leader in the team. Tyler Weaver, Cameron Adam, there's real maturity in there amongst some real junior -- you see it all through the States.
Your Amateur champion, they said he's going to come out firing this afternoon. I'm looking forward to seeing him because I've never seen him play before. You need a balance. We've got a balance in the team, but most importantly, we're a team, and there's real cohesion there, and that's strong.
Q. Does he fit into that team, given he obviously was a professional only a year ago?
DEAN ROBERTSON: He absolutely does, absolutely. That's been a big -- the three pillars that I've really focused in on is preparation, togetherness and execution. Certainly we've done the preparation. We've got them together. Now it's all about going out there and letting their golf clubs doing the talking and playing hard, and hopefully we can get a little bit of the rub of the greens somewhere along the way. But we got some momentum this morning, and I'm absolutely thrilled.
