FM CHAMPIONSHIP

August 31, 2025

Miranda Wang

Boston, Massachusetts, USA

TPC Boston

Press Conference

THE MODERATOR: All right, joining me today after the final round of the FM Championship, our 2025 champion, Miranda Wang. Can you just talk us through how you're feeling right now after becoming a Rolex first time winner?

MIRANDA WANG: It's a dream come true. Winning LPGA has been my dream since actually since day one of my golf because I started playing golf because when I was eight years old I was watching LPGA tournament on TV.

I was like oh, that's I want to do and I want to be on this tour. I want to win out there. So I finally did this. Very proud of myself. (Smiling.)

Q. You had to make par or better on your last hole to avoid a playoff with Jeeno. What were you thinking coming down the stretch on 18?

MIRANDA WANG: Actually I didn't know her score. I was trying to do my work. The tee shot is in the fairway and par-5 you have to get to the green in three.

I was really focused on doing my own work, and after I hit it on the green I realized oh, I need to two-putt this to win.

Still, just doing my work. I believed in myself.

Q. You are the seventh rookie it win on Tour this season. What do you think it is about this rookie class that's so competitive so quickly?

MIRANDA WANG: It's very competitive year, and we have -- I think someone told me that we have 24 different winners this year.

It's my rookie year. Being this competitive, I think it's good for my career. Prepares me for many years to come.

Knowing my rookie class is super competitive, very good players, Miyu has won a major, and, yeah, I just want to keep up with the best. Don't want to be left behind.

Hopefully more wins to come.

Q. Congratulations. You've said all week that you want to keep up with the best. How were you able to do that on such a consistent basis, especially with the weather delays the other day and then today you and Jeeno were neck and neck coming in?

MIRANDA WANG: Yeah, so we had weather delay on the second round. I was thinking positively about my situation. I was trying to keep myself positive, as I told on the second round press. Because I play in the morning wave, eventually I could finish the round on Friday. Some players like Rose, she had to play 32 holes on the third round -- on Saturday.

So I think that way, like I'm having advantage over other players. Then I should do my job to not take it for granted.

Q. What can a win like today, what does that do for you personally and for your career?

MIRANDA WANG: I hope it's the first of many, and I will work hard. I hope one day I will win a major. Yeah, it's a wonderful beginning of my LPGA career. It's my rookie year and this happened, so it's a wonderful start.

Q. So 15 did not go your way. You bogeyed; 16 you put it close; great tee shot; misses. How do you recollect yourself to go into 17 and have the championship winning birdie?

MIRANDA WANG: I just -- so starting the first tee shot of today I just told myself, don't give up. Like whatever happens, it's part of golf. Just don't give up. Just kept telling myself, don't give up.

I do my best on every shot. Like even on No. 15 I bogeyed it, but it was actually a very good fourth shot to give me the bogey. I could have -- if I didn't -- if I wasn't careful enough, calm enough, it could easily turn into a double.

But like bogey is better than a double, so I was trying to save every shot. If I make a mistake, I try to just accept it. I told myself just to accept it and keep fighting.

Q. On 17, can you walk me through your approach and putt? What did you see? How many yards? What did you hit? What was going through your head in those situations?

MIRANDA WANG: Yeah, so No. 17 I birdied there before, so I'm pretty confident with that hole. That hole just works for me.

But honestly, the second shot was not easy. It was not visually comfortable to anyone I think. It's a hard pin position.

But I knew that my 9-iron has been hitting good and on second round I had similar shot from the same area of the fairway and I hit it really close to the pin. I knew how to do it, so I just wanted to repeat what I did on the second round.

Q. How does Miranda Wang champion sound?

MIRANDA WANG: It sounds perfect. (Laughter.)

Q. And I got to ask you, is that Duke blue? Is there any superstition behind today's outfit choice?

MIRANDA WANG: I don't think it's the real Duke blue to be honest. I tried my best. This is my only blue shirt. Yeah, so it brings back a lot of memories wearing blue.

I played NCAA and I won for the Duke team, and that was a special memory of playing under pressure, trying to win the big trophy not only for myself, but for the team.

Reminds me how my teammates used to support me by my side. Now I have my team, my physio, my caddie, and my family is watching. It's a wonderful color that reminds me of a lot of positives I would say.

Q. And then you've dreamed of this. Was that celebration with the champagne and seeing that last putt go in, did that live up to what you dreamed?

MIRANDA WANG: Yes, definitely. Yes.

Q. Congratulations.

MIRANDA WANG: Thank you so much.

Q. Congratulations. Let's the follow-up. You said you didn't look at the scoreboard on 18. Did you look at it on 17 or 16 or 15 to know where you stood?

MIRANDA WANG: Okay, so I took -- I think I looked at it on 16 after I miss the putt. So I was not trying to look at it, but after I turn around to make the second putt I saw it.

Q. So you didn't look at 17 either?

MIRANDA WANG: I didn't. Never saw the leaderboard on 17.

Q. Did you ask your caddie not to tell you how you stood or you didn't want to know?

MIRANDA WANG: No, I don't mind knowing it, but definitely told my caddie not to.

Q. Okay. Just to follow up, have you played any golf in New England before this week?

MIRANDA WANG: I believe we played Epson Tour close to Boston, but not exactly here.

Q. Okay, so what type of courses do you like? This is tree-lined fairways, elevation changes, big greens. Does this feed into your game? What type of course do you like?

MIRANDA WANG: This year we played so many different styles of golf course. Last month we just finished Europe Swing. It was very different there.

But I feel like I would say I prefer tree-lined courses. I also don't hate links. I also do well on links a couple times.

And as I said before, this course and Boston, everything feels very similar to where I grew up in Beijing. Beijing China has similar weathers so we have like humid, warm summer and the cold winter and trees are like this; we have grass like this.

So, yeah.

Q. So you had a three-shot lead coming into today. What did you do last night? Think about the plan? What's the strategy with a three-shot lead the first time?

MIRANDA WANG: So yesterday I finished pretty late so I went straight to getting my physio. My physio was setting me up not only physically, also mentally telling me, oh, let's not check social media. That's what I did.

It was also kind of late so put my phone away. After physio, just fell asleep, yeah.

Q. Congratulations, first of all. Go, Duke.

MIRANDA WANG: Thank you.

Q. Second of all, you were so clutch coming down to the end, 17, 18, which is so impressive. Like you're a rookie; you're battling against the No. 1 player in the world. How were you able to handle that pressure?

MIRANDA WANG: I think it's a great honor for me to play against the best in the world. I know Jeeno just recently became world No. 1 again.

Before I got on this Tour she was world No. 1 and she is a player that I admire. Today I played with Rose, my good friend. They're wonderful players. I think there is so much I learned from today. Definitely wanted myself to beat athleticism but at the same time it's a great learning experience for me.

So I cherished every moment of it.

Q. Have you ever felt pressure like you felt today? Have you ever felt that at any other time in your career?

MIRANDA WANG: Yeah, definitely before today tee off I felt pressure. I was telling my mom, oh, mom, I miss you so much. I think that was because I felt pressure.

But I would say after I started playing I just zoomed into my game, hit fairways and greens. That's what I wanted to do all day.

THE MODERATOR: Thank you, Miranda.

MIRANDA WANG: Thank you so much.
