Quick Quotes
Q. All right, joining me here today after the final round the CPKC Women's Open is Minjee Lee. It's been a phenomenal week out here. You played incredible. Can you just kind of talk through what it was like getting this week under your belt?
MINJEE LEE: Yeah, so I mean, I feel like I've had a couple good weeks under my belt since KPMG, so I'm just trying to obviously get better each time. But I feel like I've been striking it pretty well, putting well, so I feel like everything is kind of coming together piece by piece.
Yeah, no, I had a solid performance so can't really say anything. I kind of got out played I guess.
Q. You have had a phenomenal year. Like you said you won KPMG, RAMA Award. Can you just talk about what you think has maybe fallen into place to make you so consistently good this year?
MINJEE LEE: I definitely think my putting has helped a lot with my confidence. You know, I switched to a broomstick at the beginning of the year and since KPMG I think I've felt much more comfortable in using it.
You know, put a lot of my trust in it now so I feel like that's really let me play with a bit more freedom. Even if I do miss the green, like I trust that my chipping and putting will help me get up and down.
So I think that's a really nice feeling to have.
Q. Obviously nobody ever wants to finish runner-up but with the crowds out here supporting Brooke, watching her win for a second time in her home country, what was that experience like?
MINJEE LEE: You want me to be honest? No, obviously it was great to have a lot of the fans come out to support Brooke. They were actually quite funny. When I was walking through the crowd they were like we're going for you too but it's like -- it's Canada, they're going to go for Brooke.
It's fantastic that it was such a great turnout for the tournament. We always get a nice turnout for Canadian Open so it's great.
Q. As the afternoon was going on and kind of looked like it was really just going to be and you Brooke down to the end; is that something that you noticed as well?
MINJEE LEE: I think beginning of the day we were three ahead I think, so this golf course is quite demanding. I didn't think there was anyone who was going to really jump super ahead maybe if they tee'd off maybe an hour or two before and just posted a score.
So I felt like it would probably most likely be that, that me and Brooke would be head-to-head. After 9 it seemed like that's what kind of happened.
Q. You're trying to win this tournament. Did you at any point see what was standing out about Brooke's game today?
MINJEE LEE: I thought she was really solid coming down the stretch. She hit really great iron shots and gave herself opportunities for birdie. The ones she did make were really clutch. Pin placements were not that easy. A lot of them were -- obviously the wind direction for those two par-5s, it was downwind so it was nice. We could have a go and the tee was up on 12.
Yeah, the last few holes was really solid. Even the last hole she was in the bunker and got it on the green and two putted from, I don't know, 40 feet. Yeah, no, it's great that she could get this win I think.
Q. Obviously huge galleries following you guys all day between obviously being the final pairing and also Brooke.
MINJEE LEE: Yep.
Q. How did they treat you today?
MINJEE LEE: I think they were very respectable. I mean, obviously no booing or anything but I could feel that obviously a lot of the energy was going to Brooke.
But I got claps here and there when I made birdie so it wasn't -- I mean, they were nice. Nice enough.
Q. I am always struck, not just today, but always with your composure and how focused you are, how you can I won't say ignore the galleries, but you don't let them affect you. What's your mindset in a situation like this where you know the crowd is partial to your opponent?
MINJEE LEE: Yeah, today was really tough actually because there was just so many people. Obviously Brooke being Canadian it was a lot of fans were there for her. I think I'm just -- I was very mentally strong today and I just tried to focus on obviously myself and the things that I could do to get the score lower.
So I mean, that's pretty much what I did and what I tried to focus on. I think overall did I a fairly good job today.
