Brooke Henderson

Mississaugua Golf & Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Congrats. When you are standing in the bunker on 17, what was going through your head before you took the shot and obviously after?

BROOKE HENDERSON: Yeah, well, before I got into the bunker I was thinking, I can make this. It's very makable. I was really happy with where the tee shot ended up. Had a really good line in the bunker. I knew I had to hit it soft because it was really fast. It was nice to land it right where I wanted to and see it go in.

Definitely a great way to finish with two birdies back to back and the eagle. And even the par on 18 I was really happy with because the hole was playing pretty tough today.

Q. You've been speaking this week about capturing the energy from the Canadian fans and the crowd. How was that working for you today?

BROOKE HENDERSON: Yeah, the crowds have been so phenomenal all week, and today starting out on the first tee because I was near the final groups, it was really exciting and a lot of energy. I feel like I was playing pretty well today, so the crowd continued to grow and grow.

It was fun to give them some things to cheer about. That's always the goal, one of the goals.

Yeah, so today was a great day and I'm just really excited to head into tomorrow in a good spot and hopefully put up a good number.

Q. When you have a round like you did today and you hit a lot of long putts, chip ins, what's going through your mind as a lot of things are dropping for you?

BROOKE HENDERSON: Yeah, it's really nice when you have that confidence and that momentum of seeing good shots and shots go into the hole. I mean, that's all you want, is to see the ball go in the hole. I feel like I was gaining a lot confidence from that, which is nice.

Feel like my mindset today pretty good and I'm really happy with that. Hopefully tomorrow just get off to good start and go from there.

Q. As you try to win this tournament for the second time, how can you draw on your past experiences?

BROOKE HENDERSON: Yeah, for sure. Winning in 2018 was a huge career highlight. It meant so much to me. It was so special. To be in a position to possibly have that opportunity again is really, really cool. I mean, I'm still a really long way from that. There are so many top players near the top of the leaderboard and still 18 holes to play. I'm just hoping to go out there and get a fast start and try to make the birdies and get the crowd on my side again and see what we can do.

Q. Looks like you'll be paired with Minjee Lee. Is that a comfortable pairing for you on Sunday?

BROOKE HENDERSON: Yeah, I love playing with Minjee. She has an amazing presence on course, she is like very calm and relaxed and I feel like it's a great pairing for the final round.

Q. How do you spend this evening? Any parallels between how you spend the night before the last time you...

BROOKE HENDERSON: I think pretty much the nights are very similar any time I'm playing competitive golf. Nothing too crazy. Just try to get a good dinner, good rest and good prep for tomorrow.

Q. What does this do for your confidence this season?

BROOKE HENDERSON: Yeah, it has not been a good year so far, out to how I played previous years. This definitely is a step in the right direction. Three solid rounds of golf and just happy to be in the final groups and playing such -- I mean, good golf in front of great crowds.

Excited to be here and for what the rest of the season holds, too.

Q. You've repeated as champion at different events before. Is there a trick to that? Is it a mentality you have to carry?

BROOKE HENDERSON: I think honestly a lot of it is confidence just knowing you've done it before. Feel like this week I've had a nice amount of confidence. Just hopefully continue to strengthen that going into tomorrow because I'm going to need it.

Q. Great day out there. You've been telling us for quite a while now that your game has been trending in the right direction, that it's close. Can we safely say that it has arrived now?

BROOKE HENDERSON: I think so after yesterday and today, great rounds of golf. Nice to get so far under par, into double digits for the tournament is always a really good feeling.

Hopefully tomorrow just go out and continue on what we been doing. Hopefully get off to a fast start, try to make some birdies, and just play like really consistent golf. It's so exciting to be in this position, so fun to have the crowds on my side.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow.

Q. You also talked about the mental side of your game, you've been trying to work on that. Seemed to be a lot of determination and focus out there. Not sure if that's what you felt. Was it like that? Is this one of the more determined and focused rounds you've had?

BROOKE HENDERSON: Yeah, I would say so for sure. Focus has been a really big thing for me that I'm trying to dial in again and get into a good spot. I feel like the last two days it's been pretty decent.

Yeah, just continue to work on the mentality and the mindset and get into a good framed more tomorrow.

Q. The shot on 17, (regarding Cara Wagner.) Can you talk us through that and did you expect that to go -- talk to me about it.

BROOKE HENDERSON: Yeah, I was really happy where that tee shot ended up. I hit a nice fly in the bunker. I knew I was going to have to hit it pretty high and soft because it was fast going down to that hole, but I felt like it was a great opportunity and I could definitely make it. To see it go in was definitely a bonus. Nice to jump up the leaderboard.

Q. You were in this position in 2018. You have a crowd behind you that no one else on this golf tournament is going to have. How do you access that crowd and how do you do it before to carry it with you this time?

BROOKE HENDERSON: I think that's the trick of learning how to deal with it in the best way. Everybody out here is so supportive and show me so much love. It's such a special week. I feel like soon as I get on -- as soon as I'm in a good framed and I get off to a fast start I kind of feel that energy, it's going to be a great day. I'm just looking forward to the opportunity tomorrow, and, yeah, hoping to give them lots to cheer about.

I think it will be a lot of fun. I just know whatever happens everyone is really proud and I feel like that gives me -- like I can relax.

Q. All right, here with Brooke Henderson. Brooke, holy smokes. What a finish. I want to go back to No. 12 and that long putt. Tell me a little bit about that putt and what it did for your confidence as you started to finish up today's round.

BROOKE HENDERSON: Yeah, for sure. I was actually hoping to go for that green in two but unfortunately it was just too tight of an angle, so I had to layup and the layup wasn't -- or the third shot wasn't as close as I was hoping either.

But I was just trying to get the speed right. It was super fast sliding down that hill. We were able to read it exactly and to see it go in was definitely a bonus. The crowd was super excited which was really fun.

I feel like to move forward and then to birdie 15 and 16 and then eagle 17, was just a dream way to finish this round and looking forward to tomorrow?

Q. Let's go 17 real quick. You had mentioned before you felt that was maybe a makable bunker shot. You don't often have that opportunity. For you to be able to go in there and think, hey I have a chance here, how did that make you feel?

BROOKE HENDERSON: Yeah, it was really exciting. I was really happy where that tee shot ended up. I had a nice lie in the bunker. I knew I was going to have to hit a nice high and soft shot because it was pretty fast. I knew it was makable and I love that feeling. Just to see it go in was another bonus.

So a lot of good things today. A lot of exciting things and hopefully I can do it again tomorrow.

Q. Your dad was awfully excited with that shot. Overall your game, you have long talked about how close you were. Putting was on today; ball striking has returned to that level that we're expecting from you. Overall tee-to-green and the putting, how would you grade your game to this point right now?

BROOKE HENDERSON: Today was definitely an A. Today was good. Yeah, as you mentioned the ball striking was much better. It was pretty sharp today which is a good feeling. Good to see some putts roll in. That's always a good thing, especially to for me just to build confidence and momentum going into the final round.

But, I mean, it's just a great spot to be in, and it will be a tough day tomorrow. Lots of big names and it will be a tough finish but I'm looking forward to the challenge.

Q. Final round obviously, but the crowd will be firmly on your side. Is that going to be something that will help you?

BROOKE HENDERSON: Yeah, I'm pretty excited for the crowds again. They've been so phenomenal all week, and I know that they'll definitely be on my side going into tomorrow. Just hearing a lot of go Canada, go Brookes, just hoping to get off to a fast start and really reel in that energy.
