Quick Quotes
Q. All right, joined by Alexa Pano after the third round of the CPKC Women's Open. You had a great round today: eight birdies; finished your last three holes at 3-under par. Can you just talk about your round today?
ALEXA PANO: Yeah, didn't get off to a hot start today or yesterday, but the putter kind of has started to heat up around like the fourth hole every day, so that's been pretty nice.
I dropped a few bombs coming down the stretch today and felt really good over the ball, so that was a nice change of pace for me.
Q. Yeah, you've had an interesting year this year. A lot of missed cuts but a lot of made cuts as well. Can you talk about how you keep your head in the game going through that?
ALEXA PANO: Yeah, I think that's the great thing about golf, is that each week is a new week, and I've been taking that perspective. I've dealt with a lot off the golf course this year, so it's just been like keeping a good perspective and staying positive as much as I can.
Q. You made that last birdie putt on 18 and there is a huge crowd out here cheering for you. What does that feel like having this Canadian crowd cheering you on?
ALEXA PANO: Yeah, it's pretty cool. This event always draws a great crowd. My rookie season I played Sunday here with Brooke Henderson and that's something I'll never forget. It was like the crowds here are already crazy for all of us, but for her it's insane. Some of the loudest roars I've ever heard.
It's always great to come back here because we know we'll have a great crowd and a great event.
Q. You just celebrated your 21st birthday this week. Can you about anything fun you did or how you're celebrating?
ALEXA PANO: Yeah, I had a really nice dinner with a bunch of my friends from the LPGA Tour. It's lucky enough that my best friend, Anna Davis, got an exemption into the field this week and my other best friend, Kiara Romero Top 10ed in Portland last week, so both of them were here, which was super special.
And then next week is my home event, so getting to do some more fun stuff next week. So a little birthday month. Celebration is never ending, yeah.
Q. You mentioned Kiara and Anna getting in the field. They both play collegiate golf. You're only 21 but you kind of seem like a veteran out here at this point. Can you talk about how it feels being so young but not one of the rookies anymore?
ALEXA PANO: Yeah, it's pretty weird to say that I've been playing pro golf for almost four years now. When I think about it time has flown by, so I don't really feel like I've been out here for four years.
But, yeah, it's crazy how much time has gone by. And even seeing them in their junior or senior years now and I am kind of in that on the LPGA Tour now is kind of crazy.
Q. You mentioned next week is your home event, the FM Championship. Can you talk about what you're looking forward to with all your hometown friends coming out and supporting you?
ALEXA PANO: Yeah, I think it's going to be great. We have a really good field this year and the crowds were so good last year. It was kind of a tough turnaround coming back from the British but I think the timing works out really nicely this year.
FM puts on such a great event, so I know it's going to be special. Yeah, can't wait to see what the week brings.
Q. You are sponsored by the Patriots. We are headed there next week. Can you talk about that relationship and how that's continued to grow and evolve?
ALEXA PANO: Yeah, I'm so lucky to have the support of a team that I've looked up to and been a fan of my whole life. Even getting to meet some of the players last year. I know some of the organization will be out there this week I'm sure.
We're having the pro-am party at Gillette and I have been hyping it up so much making sure all the girls are coming. It's so cool. I mean, dream come true for sure.
To be able to have an LPGA event in the town now as well, not too far from Gillette Stadium where I've grown up going to football games with my dad for forever is super special.
Q. I just wanted to ask about the putting. You said about your putting that it's been warming up today, or on 4. Have you been working on that recently or something?
ALEXA PANO: Yeah, I've been working really hard on my putting. It seems when my putter gets hot I start playing good. Seeing some of those bombs drop today was really nice. These greens can be a little bit tricky if you're not in the right spots.
I found myself with some really big sliders going in, and that felt really nice. Shauna Tate told me at the end that she wanted to trade putters with me, and I'm normally the one saying that to her, so that felt really cool.
Q. I think your dad mentioned too, a lot of those last couple putts were sliders as well. Is that just what some of these greens are like and where the pins are, too?
ALEXA PANO: Yeah, definitely. There were some tricky pin positions out there today. Found myself having to play to the sides of the cup a lot more. Yeah, shoutout dad for some of the really good reads today.
I can't lie. He was very helpful and obviously it showed in having on like 26 putts today.
