Quick Quotes
Q. Great round today; walk me through it.
TRISH JOHNSON: Actually quite boring really. I think 14 pars, then I made birdie, then of course I went bogey-bogey, then I made birdie. Weird round.
Hit some poor shots in the middle. Hit some fantastic chips. Then had quite a few birdie chances. Putted very poorly today. It's a shame. I didn't play brilliantly, but I had enough chances maybe inside 10 feet, probably six or seven, and didn't make -- actually I lie; I made one on the last. Disappointing with the putter. Might have just hit upon something on the last couple of holes with my irons because a couple of them were pretty ropey, as well. But I did hit some good shots in between.
It wasn't easy. The first few holes were really windy, which I thought would probably help me, but I didn't really take advantage of anything today. It wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be. But I hung in there, I suppose, which is something, and made a birdie at the last.
A hint of a chance, I suppose, but I'm going to need a bloody miracle tomorrow.
Q. What part of your game do you think has been the most consistent?
TRISH JOHNSON: My chipping. My chipping has been really good. Really good, because it's needed to be.
Bunker play is good. Putting is just -- it was weird today. I just couldn't see a line. I couldn't get it started on a line. They're really quick, the greens, and I'm not great on quick greens. I end up decelerating, so that was disappointing. Driver has been quite good most of the time. My irons haven't been anywhere near -- normally I'm really good with distance control, but this week it's been awful. The grass is a little bit different to what I'm used to. Sometimes this type of grass I can't hit my irons great off.
But I think I might have come across something the last few holes, so I'll go and hit some balls and see what happens.
Q. How was the rough playing?
TRISH JOHNSON: It's luck of the draw. You get some good ones, you get some bad ones. Don't hit it in there, really. If you hit one in the rough and you get a bad lie, it's your own fault, isn't it.
But I haven't had -- I don't normally really think I'm lucky or unlucky, but this week I've not had the best kind of luck really. Maybe if I get a bit of luck tomorrow and I play an awful lot better -- I'd have to shoot 65 tomorrow to have any chance, I suppose. But I'll give it a go. We'll see how it goes.
Q. Are you going to tweak anything for tomorrow?
TRISH JOHNSON: Tweak anything? Well, as I say, I think I'm just -- on the down swing I'm actually moving backwards, especially on my irons, so I'm just going to get on the range and try as feel as though I'm actually going forwards with my top half because I'm so far behind it I'm wrapping the club over a lot. If that's what I am doing and I hit some good shots on the range, then hopefully tomorrow I might give myself some birdie chances rather than 40-footers, which is not easy to make birdies on these holes.
