BETFRED BRITISH MASTERS HOSTED BY SIR NICK FALDO

August 23, 2025

Matt Fitzpatrick

Sutton, Coldfield, England

The Belfry Hotel & Resort

Quick Quotes

Q. 68, starting the day one behind, ended one ahead. Your appraisal?

MATT FITZPATRICK: Yeah, just played solid again. Just happy with where my game is at at the minute. Just trying to be really patient, not force it, and just keep hitting solid shots.

Q. You look comfortable, and players talk about confidence; where is your's right now?

MATT FITZPATRICK: I would say my confidence is high but it's obviously important to still keep my expectations as low as possible, as well. That's something Phil Kenyon taught me when I first started teeing him is ideally, you want high confidence and low expectations. That's kind of the best balance. That's just what I'm trying to go with this week, like I keep saying, and people are probably fed up with it.

This is my fourth week in a row, so just trying to take it easy.

Q. You won this championship ten years ago in 2015 as a 21-year-old. What's the most valuable thing you've learnt in all that time that you can draw on tomorrow?

MATT FITZPATRICK: I think just the experience of being in the position over and over. I feel like I know I've done it plenty of times now to be in final groups, to be in contention, and I think having that experience, knowing how it goes, I always feel like it's nice being in the last group. You get to have the final say. You kind of know what's going on ahead of you, and you can manage your game like that.

Q. This week trying to win the Betfred British Masters but also securing your place in the Ryder Cup. You came here to try and strengthen your case for that pick. I imagine you're very comfortable with where you are now?

MATT FITZPATRICK: Yeah, I would hope so. Last week Luke asked me to come after a conversation we had last weekend, and given where my head was at in the schedule, trying to chase my PGA TOUR Top-50.

So, yeah, it's obviously the goal when I entered here was to come here and make a case for myself as well. So you know, three good rounds so far, and hopefully can carry that on tomorrow.

Q. Two years since your last win at the Dunhill Links, obviously an opportunity to win this for the second time tomorrow. How special would that be?

MATT FITZPATRICK: It would be amazing. To do it ten years apart would be pretty cool, too, I think. Looking forward to the opportunity.

As I was out there today, it's just really enjoyable to be in these situations. Scottie Scheffler must be absolutely buzzing every week. It's really nice to be in contention, playing solid and give yourself a chance of winning a golf tournament.
