Quick Quotes
Q. Here with Maria Fassi. Just finished birdie, birdie to make the cut. What are you feeling right now?
MARIA FASSI: Very happy. I worked very, very hard both yesterday and today to be in a position to have a chance.
I feel like today I was pretty steady. Just maybe a little bit far from the pin at times. Didn't really have very many birdie looks. Obviously the last three holes I had three great looks; managed to make two of them.
Yeah, just very happy. Proud of myself. Proud of the work that we been doing with my team. Happy I get two more days of competitive golf out here.
Q. I saw you at 10. You were still in really good spirits. Had to be looming about the cut line. What goes through your head? How were you able to keep that push going to the end?
MARIA FASSI: Yeah, I mean, I think I had a pretty good idea. I didn't think the cut would move up to even. I knew it was going to stay around 1-over. Some of these hole locations are tough and stuff.
I've been hitting it well. Like I said, between yesterday and today I did a lot of very good things. I just kind of kept telling myself that, like just stay in it, hit good golf shots, and good golf will happen.
Down the stretch I was like, hey, we have six good golf swings and then we'll see what happens. I executed perfectly, so I'm just very proud of the work.
Yeah, it feels good. I'm tired but very excited for next two days.
Q. And I think we haven't seen the final scoring average, but seemed a little higher today in general. Do you know what to point that to maybe?
MARIA FASSI: Yeah, I think some of the pin locations were a little bit harder today. I think there was quite a few where it was almost like on a little mountain so it could move three ways before it got to the hole.
So just I think a little bit tougher on the greens.
But, yeah, it's an amazing golf course. I think it really tests all aspects of your game. I think we got lucky teeing up so late. Probably the last five holes we really didn't have as much wind which was nice to be able to finish with that.
Yeah, the wind is blowing and the rough is very thick, so, yeah, it's a very, yeah, just testing golf course. It's in great shape, so I think it's going to continue to test us in all areas.
Q. And bouncing back, too, you were one of the Monday qualifiers, so been here a while and played your way through that. What was that like to be a Monday qualifier and if that changes your perspective on this week?
MARIA FASSI: Yeah, it felt good earning my spot. I feel like I've gotten very lucky with having a few sponsor invites this year which I'm extremely thankful for. This one I just kept telling the people on my team, I earned my way into this field, and I just want to make it worth it.
Mark Wallington who caddied for me for a while, he's like, hey, don't be celebrating the fact you made it through. The tournament starts now. You're too good of a player to be celebrating a Monday qualifier.
I feel like I needed to hear that maybe more than I thought I did. He was just very kind and nice of him to just have that belief. Yeah, very happy that I get two more days.
