Maria McBride

Chula Vista, California, USA

San Diego Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. We're joined by Maria McBride. Great job today. Can you walk me through your round, especially that eagle on 14.

MARIA McBRIDE: Yeah, actually there were a few shots off the tee that maybe weren't the greatest. I've been in the rough I think a little bit more today than I was yesterday. But overall I really took advantage of the par-5s.

Obviously on the par-5, 14, I hit a drive just a foot off the fairway, but I thought it was a great lie, I could get a little flier from there and top spin, and I hit a perfect 5-wood that just kind of crept up through the bunkers to about six feet, and I made the putt.

Q. You gained a little bit of momentum from yesterday. What worked today? Did the course play any different that you were playing in the morning?

MARIA McBRIDE: It was a little bit softer in the morning, obviously, and we were able to get probably nine holes without too much wind. Again, it picked up like it always does, but yesterday we played 18 holes in the wind, so that made a little bit of a difference.

But I did take advantage of the par-5s today, obviously played them well. Unfortunately I came in 16 and 18 and I had two three-putts, but I played well, and still very happy with my round today.

Q. How were those greens playing for you? How have you approached them this week so far?

MARIA McBRIDE: They are fast. You really have to focus on every putt out there, and I think that makes a difference. There's some putts that feels like they should run out a little bit more. My first putt on 16 on the par-5, I thought I hit a great putt but left it a little short, and I thought it was going to be a great putt. Then obviously missed that second putt. I still made par, but you just have to be careful, try to leave yourself in a good spot on the greens. If you don't, you just have to make sure you get your two-putt.

Q. What's the reset routine looking like? How are you going to approach the weekend?

MARIA McBRIDE: I'm obviously done early today. Relax a little bit and we're just having a home-cooked meet. I'm staying with Charlotta and her husband, and her husband cooks, which is great, so we can just enjoy that tonight whenever she's done. She's playing late today.

But just kind of enjoy the situation and enjoy going out there tomorrow and really being in contention. It's going to be tough for those girls out there this afternoon. There will probably be someone that shoots a low score, but I'm in a great position, so I'm really looking forward to the weekend.
