Quick Quotes
THE MODERATOR: We are joined by Annika Sorenstam, 3-under, clubhouse leader. What was working for you today?
ANNIKA SORENSTAM: I'm very pleased with the first round. I felt pretty solid from tee to green. I think I ended up in some good approach shots on the right side of the flag, which is very helpful on this course, so thank my caddie for that advice.
But no, I had such a great pairing, Laura Diaz and Catrin Nilsmark and I felt relaxed in my group, and beautiful morning here in San Diego.
Q. Talk about the greens and the hole locations. It is very important where you're going to hit your approach shot.
ANNIKA SORENSTAM: Yeah, I was looking a lot in the yardage book just making sure, please be here, avoid this area, because even if you're close but you're on the wrong side, you're just going to be very tentative, and early on I was watching Laura and she hit some good shots but she was slightly above it and I could see how much more tentative you get, and that's not where I need to be. I was trying to stay a little short of the hole or pin high just to make sure that I would be able to have the right speed and not be too cautious.
Q. You have a lot of the day left and a late tee time tomorrow. What will you do between now and then?
ANNIKA SORENSTAM: Well, the family is coming, so I'm super excited. They're coming this evening, so I'll obviously go to the airport and pick them up and I think we're going to grab dinner with my sister and her husband, so we look forward to that. Have a nice little lunch here and maybe hit a few balls, want to make sure I hit the club face again, and then recharge. This is a very long championship, it's a marathon, and today is just a little piece of what we have, so I want to make sure I reserve some energy because it's going to get tougher by the weekend.
