Q. Opening 78 at the Betfred British Masters. Highlight of the round was hole No. 14, your first hole-in-one.

BEN SCHMIDT: Yeah, it's a perfect number for me. I had 180 yards downwind, 8-iron 170 stock shot. I thought with a bit of helping wind, it should be a good number. Hit a nice shot in there and watched it go in.

Q. At what point did you think this was looking better than good?

BEN SCHMIDT: On its way down, I was tracking it coming down and I was like, that's holding a pretty good line for the pin. When it hit the green and watching it roll up, it was perfect.

Q. Obviously not only a hole-in-one for yourself but the title sponsor donating 50,000 pounds; how nice to help contribute and give back?

BEN SCHMIDT: That's great. That's absolutely fantastic. It's great to give back. I was happy it was on that hole.

Q. Your rookie season out here, coming off your best finish to date. How are vibes playing in front of friends and family?

BEN SCHMIDT: This is a great event on home soil. I have fans out there supporting me which is really nice. Like you said, I had a good performance last week and taking it into this week with good play.

I'm happy with where the game is at. This whole event and week is great and I'm really happy to be here.

Q. What's the plan for tomorrow? How are you hoping to push on from where you are?

BEN SCHMIDT: Try to make as many birdies as possible. I think if you are good off the tee around here, you have lots of chances. So just the tee shots, mainly, and then see if we can hole a few putts tomorrow.
