CPKC WOMEN'S OPEN

August 19, 2025

Savannah Grewal

Mississauga, Ontario, Canada

Mississaugua Golf and Country Club

Press Conference

THE MODERATOR: Okay, hi, Savannah. Thank you for joining us today at the CPKC Women's Open. This is not your first time competing in your home country as a professional, but it is your first time competing as a professional in your hometown.

Can you just share a little bit about how that is what it's a little bit different about this week compared to other tournaments?

SAVANNAH GREWAL: Yeah, it's exciting. Honestly, I don't know that I have ever competed in Mississauga, even throughout my amateur career, so it feels a little weird to be playing so close to home. It's really exciting. I'm excited to have family and friends come out and watch and also just recognize Mississauga as the great place it is and the cultural melting pot it is.

I'm excited to broadcast it on a global stage.

Q. There is a lot of young talent coming out of Canada. Yourself, Lauren Kim, and Aphrodite Deng. Can you share a bit about what you think it is about the young amateurs in Canada as well as what Golf Canada is doing to support that?

SAVANNAH GREWAL: Yeah, I think we're really lucky with the support we get from Golf Canada. We have a great program and I'm excited to see so many up and coming amateurs and young pros now.

I think Canadian golf is headed in a great direction, so definitely excited to see more Canadians come out and I hope in the future we will have some more girls on the LPGA.

Q. Played really last week in Portland. How do you feel heading into this week?

SAVANNAH GREWAL: I feel pretty good. I think my game is in a good spot. I had a nice break between the Dow Championship and Portland last week, so it was nice to come decompress a little and work on things. I'm excited. I think it will be a good week.

Q. This is your second year on Tour. What's different this year compared to your rookie season last year?

SAVANNAH GREWAL: I think a big lesson I learned even this year is the importance of rest. I think heading into my rookie year I hit the ground running and was just like practice, practice, go, go, go. Like need to get in as many rounds as possible.

This year I realize rest is important and it's good not to burn myself out before the tournament starts, so it's been a big lesson.

Q. We heard the Maple Leafs gifted jerseys to you. Can you share a bit what that means to be recognized by your hometown team?

SAVANNAH GREWAL: Yeah, it's really cool. I love the Maple Leafs. They had a phenomenal year. Obviously would've liked a championship, but that's okay.

Yeah, it's really cool. The Leafs have been super influential growing up. It's obviously a hometown team pretty much, so for them to even know who I am was really cool.

Q. Can you speak to a little bit growing up and coming and coming up in your Korean which female golfers you looked up to?

SAVANNAH GREWAL: I really looked up to Annika and Seri Pak. My mom was born in Korea and raised in Sweden, so obviously one of them being Korean and one of them being Swedish was really influential for me. I mean, to see Seri Pak, someone who looks like me and is from a similar background, was really cool.

Q. How much of an influence was Brooke in your upcoming? Do you follow her, look at her as someone to follow your career?

SAVANNAH GREWAL: Yeah, I definitely looked up to Brooke. I think I was already in high school when she first got out on Tour. She had a phenomenal career. I personally think she's the greatest Canadian golfer to ever play the game. She has done a great job, and I think she's really inspired a lot of Canadians. As we can see, there are a lot of up-and-coming girls and I think she's had a really big part of that.

I definitely look up to her. I'd love to pick her brain one day and hopefully play with her one day. She's so talented and she seems like a really genuine person.

Q. Have you never played with her, practice?

SAVANNAH GREWAL: I've never played with her. I think we just play at different times because I never get to see her out there. I really hope one day.

Q. Where were you, if you can remember, when you first heard that the CPKC Women's Open was coming to Mississauga, and your immediate reaction to that?

SAVANNAH GREWAL: I was at tournament somewhere because I remember being in a hotel room. I think both my parents were both there. I remember finding out on social media, as everyone my age does now. I remember opening Instagram and seeing Mississauga Golf and Country Club. I was like, oh, my gosh, no way. This is so cool. I remember texting everyone I know that the CPKC Women's Open is going to be in Mississauga next year.

Yeah, it was just really exciting and really surreal moment.

Q. Curious a little bit about last week. Obviously you played so well certainly for sure the first two rounds. Maybe not the weekend you would've liked. As compared to some other results this season, what was the big difference for your game last week?

SAVANNAH GREWAL: Honestly I think just having some time beforehand. I think early on in the season I kind of just burnt myself out. I never really took time off during the offseason either, so I think that kind of just bled into early this year where I just never really felt rejuvenated.

I felt like coming home for about a month and then taking some time away from the game and then also then getting back into things was really helpful. Then my dad was also on the bag last week, so I think having a familiar face on the bag was also really reassuring. My dad caddied for me throughout, my entire junior golf career and amateur career, so it was nice to have him back on the bag.

Q. Is he caddieing for you this week?

SAVANNAH GREWAL: My brother is actually caddieing for me this week. My brother is really good at keeping me calm and collected. He's closer to me in age, so we have a lot to talk about and joke around about.

Q. Do you think that will help to kind of make this just feel like any other week on the LPGA Tour as best as it can be obviously playing here in Mississauga? It's a fairly important week for you in terms of earning CME points.

SAVANNAH GREWAL: Yeah, for sure. My brother caddied for me at Blue Bay last year and I played in the second-to-last group heading into the final round. He did a really good job of just keeping me relaxed, keeping me very present, just happy and joking around.

So that was something that's really upon to me heading into this week, and so I think he's the perfect person to do that.

Q. So you've been in this tournament a few times before. What sticks out about playing in front of the Canadian crowd?

SAVANNAH GREWAL: I just love the energy of the Canadian crowd. Last year in Calgary, to me it's still surreal that people even know who I am. So in Calgary people were screaming my name last year so that was really cool. Even in Arizona there were some Canadian fans earlier this year and the energy they brought was insane.

I think especially with the tournament being in the GTA there will be a lot of fans, and I'm looking forward to that. I think Canadian crowds have a lot of energy no matter what the sport it is, so it's going to be a good week.

Q. I was going to ask you about golf course. Growing up around here, what is it about this golf course that you enjoy the most?

SAVANNAH GREWAL: I love that the Credit River runs through the golf course. It's so pretty. I think it's really cool that we go into the valley a little bit. I just think it's very scenic. The clubhouse has a great view. You see it throughout the golf course. It's a nice view, too.

I think everything about it. They can really get the greens going, get the rough up. They can kind of make it like a major championship this week, which I think is also really cool.
