Chris Gotterup

Owings Mills, Maryland, USA

Caves Valley Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Kind of right on that bubble; seemed like maybe you were aware of it down the stretch. Can you take us through where you were on those last few holes?

CHRIS GOTTERUP: Going into there, I knew I needed to play well. My goal today was to catch Sungjae on points, and I don't think I quite did that. I definitely have had a disappointing last two weeks with how I felt like I was coming into the weeks, but I grinded it out. I finished today 2-under and then last week I finished with a couple under, 4-under or whatever. I was grabbing whatever points I could at the end. I played good today with not my best stuff.

Q. Still up in the air at this point. How closely are you going to follow?

CHRIS GOTTERUP: I'm going to go drive to my parents' house and hopefully by the time I get there I'll know.

It is what it is; luckily I'm not far from home if I have to go home. But I hope I don't. But I'm not going to be watching. No need to drive myself crazy over the next couple hours.

Q. Can you take us through the 17th hole?

CHRIS GOTTERUP: Yeah, that hole is insane today. You get up there and you have a 5-iron in your hands and the pin looks like it's in the lake. I hit a good shot. I hit the putt a little too hard. That's just how this course is. You roll it two, three feet past the roll and it could roll 50 feet. Not that it did, but you get in a couple funky spots and you're going to pay the price.

Q. If you do make it, what would that mean to your season and to you?

CHRIS GOTTERUP: I want to give myself another chance to play well and climb the Ryder Cup rankings and all that stuff. But if I go home today or if I play next week, I've had a great year regardless.

We were talking the other day, like if we were a month out and you said you were going to be here with a chance to fight for East Lake, you would have signed for that. I would have liked to have played better these last couple of weeks, but all things considered, big picture, it's been a good season.

Q. How special was it to have three of your best friends here, your girlfriend, your brother and sister?

CHRIS GOTTERUP: Yeah, it's great. Anytime they all get to come, it's fun. We were hanging out at the house last night just having a good time. You get to enjoy it a little bit more when everyone is around. Better than the weeks when you're in a hotel by yourself.

It's fun. I'm happy they're all here. It's been a good week. It's always fun when everyone is around.

Q. I think Brian told me about a bet you guys came up with last night. Do you want to tell me about it?

CHRIS GOTTERUP: Yeah, I said I would pay -- my buddy Danny had to do 10 push-ups for every birdie on the course, and I was going to give him $100 for every birdie I made. I only got three or four today, but I would have happily made him do 90 push-ups if I could. I tried my best, but not many birdies out here this week, for me at least.

Q. You mentioned the Ryder Cup in one of your last answers. Did you feel that pressure the last couple weeks to try to play well?

CHRIS GOTTERUP: No, I don't think so. The whole thing has kind of come out of nowhere, for me at least. For me, if I made it, it would have been amazing, and if I make it, hopefully I get the chance next week. The whole thing is a good experience regardless of being -- people talk about your name more and dealing with that and dealing with all of it is hopefully what I'll have to deal with down the road.

Like I said, same thing with East Lake, it's like you hope to be in a position to make it count, and I would say the last couple weeks I definitely haven't earned much. But the prior month and a half I felt like I was playing better than most people.

Hopefully I go find something and hopefully be able to go do that next week.
