THE MODERATOR: Let's welcome Dustin Johnson, captain of 4Aces GC, currently tied for the lead with Seb Muñoz. Take us through your round today.
DUSTIN JOHNSON: Yeah, it was a really solid round. Got off to a little bit shaky start there at the very beginning. Just drove it in the bunker on 1 and hit it over the green and then made a nice 15-footer for par, and then hit some good shots after that but didn't really -- just never really gave myself a chance.
I finally birdied 6 and then hit some good shots on 7, too, had a good look at eagle, made birdie there. Then nice shots on 8 and 9, made birdie on 9. Just took me a little while to get going, but once I did, I felt like I played really solid and hit a lot of good shots.
Q. You've won every year since you joined LIV Golf and you're chasing your first win of the season this week. Obviously in a good place to get that done tomorrow. What's your mindset heading into the final round at Indianapolis?
DUSTIN JOHNSON: Same as it was today. You've just got to play from the fairway here. If you can play out of the fairway, you get a lot of good chances, you can attack the golf course. But if you're in the rough or fairway bunkers, it's tough. But yeah, as long as I drive it well tomorrow, I think I'll contend.
Q. At one point fairly early in the round you were seven shots back. When it's like that, how do you stay focused on the task at hand and not, well, that guy is looking like he's going to run away with it?
DUSTIN JOHNSON: Well, obviously he got off to a great start, I got off to a slow start, and I was seven back. But you've just got to keep trying to make birdies. Get it in the fairway and just get looks. That's what I did. I did that from about 6 on in. I played really well.
Q. How gratifying is it to go into the last day of the regular season with a chance to win? You've talked about all season that the scores haven't always reflected how you feel about your game. Looks like this week it's starting to reflect --
DUSTIN JOHNSON: It is. I felt like I've played better all year than, like I said, my scores have reflected. Yeah, having a chance to win tomorrow, that's what I'm trying to do every single week is put myself in position. Haven't really had that many chances this year, but really looking forward to tomorrow.
I'm playing really solid. I'm really comfortable over the ball. Hopefully it'll be a good day and a good fight and I've got a chance to win coming down the last few holes.
Q. Do you like this course in terms of it's giving up a lot of scores? That's something you new coming in --
DUSTIN JOHNSON: Yeah, you could tell in the practice rounds if the conditions stayed the way they are, it's going to play -- you just have to hit the fairways. If you hit the fairways, you can attack the course because the greens are so receptive. But you have to hit quality golf shots to get it close to the hole.
Q. Coming into the week, you ranked first in the world in strokes gained total on Pete Dye courses. Does that surprise you, and why do you think that is?
DUSTIN JOHNSON: I have no idea. I guess I like his golf courses. (Smiling).
Generally he has small greens. I tend to like when greens are small greens, which these are small. But I have no idea. Maybe I just like the way he does courses.
Q. Last week you put a mini-driver in the bag. I think it was last week. This week you've used it a lot. I think you used it on 1 --
DUSTIN JOHNSON: I did.
Q. Does that help you find these fairways on a shorter course?
DUSTIN JOHNSON: Yeah, and it goes -- it still goes pretty far. For me, I can hit it a hair straighter. There's not as much fade on it. Some of the holes that turn right to left, I like to use it. But yeah, I've been hitting it straight, and I'll take anything that goes in the fairway.
