THE MODERATOR: Let's welcome Henrik Stenson, co-captain of Majesticks GC. Can you take us through your round today.
HENRIK STENSON: Yeah, I got off to a really good start. Started again today on No. 3 and made a good 10-footer for birdie on 3, probably about a 12-footer on 4, and another 10-footer on 6 and hit two good shots into 7 and made birdie. I got off to a really quick start, 4-under after about six holes. That kind of set up today. The only bogey came on 8. But I managed to birdie both 9 and 10 to get it back quickly.
Of course I'm pleased with the two days' work coming in here being quite far down in the rankings. I needed a good tournament, so yeah, two down, one to go.
Q. As you say, the stakes couldn't really be higher for you this week. You began the week at 48th in the standings, just one shot above the drop zone. As things stand, you're projected to move to 39th place. With everything on the line this week, can you tell us how much pressure you felt and what would it mean for you to secure your place on LIV Golf next year?
HENRIK STENSON: Yeah, I'm obviously going to go out and try to play a solid round of golf tomorrow. I can only try and do that. Knew coming in here it was going to be a low-scoring week. Probably need to be in the 20s to win this golf tournament for sure.
If you want to have a good finish, you've got to make birdies, and that was the main focus for these couple of days. Obviously you've got to tread carefully. You try and make birdies but you can't afford too many dropped shots either.
Yeah, sticking to the plan, and yeah, it would be nice to finish with a strong round tomorrow and kind of tighten things up.
Q. Can you give us a sense of what it's been like in the team room this week? We look at the projections and every hole they change and somebody on your team is in, somebody on your team is out. Obviously a lot of pressure on everybody. Can you give us a sense of what it's been like?
HENRIK STENSON: Yeah, I think it's been a bad season for us, no question, both as individuals and as a team. As you can tell, we're all kind of bunched up towards the bottom of the order of merit.
Yeah, everyone is obviously been a bit unhappy about that position. As individuals, we're in certain positions, and then as a team as well, if we don't move out of 12th we'll play on Wednesday next week. So we've obviously got that to try and sort out tomorrow with a strong finish as a team. It would be a nice week to finish off strong here.
Q. That's the one thing that you guys could probably talk about collectively and right now you are projected to move up. Can you discuss trying to avoid the play-in game?
HENRIK STENSON: No, it is what it is. We are there for a reason, that we haven't played well enough. There were some good signs early on in the season. We got going after one or two rounds as a team, but we didn't follow through, and we could have had chances to be a lot higher up.
Yeah, better late than never, so I think everyone is kind of in the same position. Mentally we fight hard and we want to try and finish strong no matter what happens on the individual side tomorrow. I think as a team we want to try and have a good week.
Q. Why for you personally this week? Is it just because of the pressure? Is it because of the course? Obviously you've won on a Pete Dye course before.
HENRIK STENSON: I'd say the former. Historically if I'm playing really well, yes, I've won tournaments and I've done well on low-scoring golf courses. But a lot of times that hasn't really been the No. 1 hunting ground for me, where you get a little bit more rewarded for solid pars, I tend to thrive a little bit better in that environment than when it's a birdie-fest, but clearly I've got to try and make something happen, and so far the first couple of days we managed to pull a couple of white rabbits out of the hat, so let's try and find a third one tomorrow, shall we?
Q. You've played great in Ryder Cups, alongside Justin Rose, one of the best Ryder Cup pairings we've ever seen. You've dueled with Phil to win an Open. Now you're back's against the wall. Is there something about having your back against the wall and being put in position where you have to succeed that brings the best out of your game?
HENRIK STENSON: Potentially, yes. (Smiling).
