Ella Scaysbrook

Bandon, Oregon, USA

Bandon Dunes Golf Resort

Quick Quotes

Q. Obviously to get to semifinals in your first-ever USGA event, want to talk about some of the highs here.

ELLA SCAYSBROOK: Yeah.

Q. How proud are you of yourself?

ELLA SCAYSBROOK: Yeah, so proud. I guess it means a lot because I was 63 seed, so I didn't actually have a spot. To make to the semifinals especially means a lot, yeah.

Q. If there something you tell yourself from the beginning of the week to now, what would you is a I to that version of you?

ELLA SCAYSBROOK: Probably never give up. It's always just there. Yeah, great experience as well. It was really good.

Q. When you say never give up, is that something that was going through your head today? You obviously were 4-up at one point in the match.

ELLA SCAYSBROOK: Yeah.

Q. Walk me through that feeling and when you're moving through some of the holes. Walk me through that experience.

ELLA SCAYSBROOK: One shot at a time pretty much. It did get tough out there at the end. It was pretty similar to yesterday.

Yeah, just trying to stay in the present and see what happens, yeah.

Q. I do want to talk about a highlight on the 11th hole. You holed probably a 40-foot putt or more.

ELLA SCAYSBROOK: Yeah.

Q. What were you feeling in that moment? Was it nerves? Excitement?

ELLA SCAYSBROOK: I definitely feel like putting this week was definitely one of the best like out of my whole game, so I'll take confidence from that. Obviously you want to putt good so that's kind of the scoring side of the game.

So I don't know, every time I holed a long putt it was a bit of confidence for the next, yeah.

Q. And I wanted to ask on the outside it feels like you keep yourself really composed.

ELLA SCAYSBROOK: Yeah, yeah.

Q. Is it like that on the inside as well?

ELLA SCAYSBROOK: Yeah. I work really hard with John Novak on all that. Just feel like in general I'm quite laid back. Doesn't help to get I guess, I don't know the word, stressed. Doesn't help anything. Staying calm makes it a lot easier, yeah.

Q. Is he a sports psych?

ELLA SCAYSBROOK: Yeah, he is.

Q. What do you feel like works between you two? Is there anything you learned from him that you can share?

ELLA SCAYSBROOK: Yeah, definitely. He helps with everything, not just golf, like life. Me and him are good friends. I feel like that makes it the best.

But we worked together for a bit over -- probably a few years now; lost count. But he just helps with staying patient, staying in the moment, confidence. He gives you little things like when it does get intense out there, like breathing exercising and stuff like that.

Q. Do you feel like you had that confidence before you were working with him or something you developed over time?

ELLA SCAYSBROOK: Definitely had it a little bit there, but he helped to bring it out a little bit more. Yeah, so...

Q. What's next for you in your golf career?

ELLA SCAYSBROOK: So I'm going home. Probably change my flight to tomorrow maybe if I can. Queensland Am is the next thing in the books.

Q. Awesome.

ELLA SCAYSBROOK: Yeah, three weeks, so not much break.

Q. Will your family be able to be out there?

ELLA SCAYSBROOK: No. I think I'll go with my boyfriend. He plays back at home as well.

Q. Is it weird not having your family around in tournaments like this when you're in this almost final stretch?

ELLA SCAYSBROOK: They were watching on TV so I kind of knew they were there. Yeah, I travel by myself a little bit.

Q. Kind of used to it at this point.

ELLA SCAYSBROOK: Little bit, yeah.

Q. I just want to hear overall what are you going to take from this experience? Are you thinking about playing in more USGA events? You're exempt into some of the U.S. Women's Ams, but...

ELLA SCAYSBROOK: Definitely. Definitely be back for this event. I'll do this trip again next year, and after that trip I don't know if I'm going to turn pro or not, but at this rate I probably will turn pro end of next year.

But I don't know, I'll take out of it that I am capable of competing with the best. At home it's -- Australia is quite small so we have to come over here and get that experience. Just proves that I am one of the good ones as well, yeah.
