Quick Quotes
Q. Looked like you were in control of the golf ball, had a couple looks to take it even deeper. How comfortable did you feel at the finish?
J.J. SPAUN: Yeah, very well. I kept the ball in front of me and limited mistakes and got up-and-down when I needed to and made some good putts. Overall had a nice day.
Q. Were you surprised how difficult or challenging it was playing for the guys out early today? How did you think evolve by the time you got to your tee time this afternoon?
J.J. SPAUN: Yeah, I don't know what was going on this morning. I was looking at scores as I was getting ready to come out here, and there wasn't a lot of low numbers and a lot of people over par.
It was just kind of one of those days where you just take what the course gives you. Fortunately not making a lot of mistakes and playing relatively stress-free golf kind of pushed me over the edge to playing really well.
Q. What do you try to learn when you have a late tee time versus just sticking to the game plan? Is it kind of a balancing act of how much you're paying attention to what's happened already before you get to the golf course versus, hey, just put your head down and stick to it?
J.J. SPAUN: Yeah, totally. You want to see how the course is playing, what the conditions are like. You can see how receptive the greens are, get a good idea for the par-3s, how they're playing. That's what I like to look at. Obviously it's a completely different golf course than it was this morning.
I think maybe the heat and kind of the favorable wind direction for some of the longer holes, I guess you could say, is kind of the difference.
Q. Have you ever played with someone that's had three eagles in a round? It's never happened here.
J.J. SPAUN: No, actually no, I haven't. That was really impressive. He finished off nicely there after an unfortunate hole on 8, so I was happy to see that for him.
