U.S. WOMEN'S AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

August 6, 2025

Asia Young

Bandon, Oregon, USA

Bandon Dunes Golf Resort

Quick Quotes

Q. During that match you were down two I believe on the back nine.

ASIA YOUNG: Yeah.

Q. How were you able to stay focus and continue it to keep going?

ASIA YOUNG: I think it was just realizing that it's match play, so a lot can happen quickly. All you have to do is really win one hole and you're only 1-down. From there, I feel like the momentum is with me and it's really anyone's game.

I think it's just realizing that I really (Wind interference) one shot at a time and try and make birdies. A lot of times birdies win holes.

Q. Entering 18 with a one-hole lead, talk me through that approach shot.

ASIA YOUNG: Yeah, it was like a perfect number for my 5-iron, and I honestly think I made one of the best swings of my life. I was like, I'm going to put this one on the green.

Q. Yeah. You're from Bend, correct?

ASIA YOUNG: Yeah, correct.

Q. Have you been to Bandon before, played Bandon before?

ASIA YOUNG: I have. I think leading up to this tournament we came out here a little more, but there are some Oregon Junior Golf tournaments here in the winter, which is kind of a fun time because the wind is like 50 miles an hour and it's raining. One time a played a parent-child with my dad out here.

Q. How special would you say this course is?

ASIA YOUNG: Oh, I think it's one of a kind. I don't think you key of see courses like this unless you go overseas. But to have it in my home state and all these holes you have like a picture perfect view of the ocean, is just spectacular.

Q. When you're going through these few stretch of holes where you're down, was there anything you had in your mind or that your caddie was talking to you about to get you through those holes?

ASIA YOUNG: I did a lot of deep breathing and I think knowing -- like I felt like I've been striking it well. I just didn't execute perfectly on the front nine. So I think just knowing I'm right there and just keep pushing, keep pushing, yeah.

Q. In a few words, walk me through your experience so far.

ASIA YOUNG: Oh, my gosh.

Q. Any memories or anything that have been brought up?

ASIA YOUNG: I think having such a giant event with the best amateurs in the world in your home state is amazing. And just USGA events in general are always the best of the best. Getting to play out here with all the amateurs who are (wind) in the world is really, really special to me.

Q. Have there been in any like surprises or challenges out here you've had to navigate?

ASIA YOUNG: I would say probably navigating is I expected to be really windy this week and it wasn't. It perfect yesterday, which I felt was kind of rare. I know everyone was shooting really low, so I think just going out there and knowing I have to put up a low number was a good test.

Q. Absolutely. This feels like the first day where we actually have a little bit of wind in play. Was there any part of your game -- obviously lower ball flight -- but anything else specifically that you changed up, practicing a little bit more to combat that wind?

ASIA YOUNG: Yeah, I think like you said, a little lower ball flight, but also just trusting the wind. If we have to aim on the far edge of the green and let the wind blow it over, then you just have to do that.

Q. Last question: You mentioned before the championship that you knew you belonged here. Curious how that feels to be validated.

ASIA YOUNG: Yeah, it feels amazing. It's my dream to play on the LPGA and be successful there. To see all the girls who I think are going to make this next step really soon and seeing I can hit shots like them and play right there is really big for me.
