Quick Quotes
Q. Delay YOUR TV gig this week?
EMILIA DORAN: What time is it? We don't good on the air until 3:00. I mean, I kind of want to go out and walk.
Q. Really? Some really good inside knowledge.
EMILIA DORAN: Yeah, well, I actually have some great inside knowledge. It's not the prevailing wind today. I think the greens are a bit slower from the marine layer this morning.
So I want to go out and broadcast.
Q. Does your body want you to do that?
EMILIA DORAN: Oh, yeah. I'm high on adrenaline right now.
But we'll see. I'll talk it Charlie and my producer and my team. But I haven't really seen any of them yet, so kind of want to at least say hello and chat with them.
Q. What a comeback. Did she hit it in trouble off the tee?
EMILIA DORAN: Yeah, she did. She just couldn't -- just had to advance out, so I knew that -- I hit second off that tee, so I was like, I got to get it in the fairway.
Then it was a 4-hybrid. Kind of hit it out right so I was a little bummed that I didn't land it on the green. Then she hit a -- just an excellent third shot 15 feet behind the hole.
It was like, okay, like my thought over my bunker shot was, get it to within concession. I had three-footer and then --
Q. It was a good bunker shot.
EMILIA DORAN: Yeah, thank you. I missed six-footer for par on 17, so it was kind of like -- so I definitely felt the adrenaline -- it was less nerves, more like so much adrenaline on that putt.
Yeah, the adrenaline kind of stayed the whole way until my final putt on the second hole. I just kind of told myself. This is any old putt at MacGregor is my home course. Like this is just another eight-footer at MacGregor. Just try and simulate that as much as I could.
Q. Right. What did you hit on the par-3?
EMILIA DORAN: So this morning I hit a 6-iron and I went long. This afternoon I hit an 8-iron, just pin high.
Q. Yeah, like eight feet. We saw it.
EMILIA DORAN: Yeah, yeah.
Q. Had a chance on the first extra hole.
EMILIA DORAN: Yeah, I like left it a rotation short. Yeah, I was a little bummed that I didn't get it to the hole, but, I mean, that's okay. So...
Q. You haven't played a whole lot, have you?
EMILIA DORAN: No.
Q. When does the match play experience start to re-kick in for you?
EMILIA DORAN: Yeah, I feel like because I can't -- I'm not competing a whole lot. I competed twice this summer at the Donna Andrews and the North & South. I feel like that prepared me for this week, having that competition mode.
Didn't get into match play at the North South, so didn't the have any reps there. Last week when I was covering the Korn Ferry event in Utah we didn't go on the air until 4:00, so I got up at 6:30, 7:00 every day and hit balls and practiced for four hours far.
Q. At the golf course?
EMILIA DORAN: At Oak Ridge. It was like a different course there. So, yeah, I honestly felt like I got probably the best prep I could have.
Chris Stover was super nice and let me practice out there. Really good family friends out at that golf course, so...
Q. You snuck in to play a practice round here before that, right?
EMILIA DORAN: I did. Last Monday I had a 4:10 Pacific tee time and I woke up at 6:00 a.m. eastern.
Q. So flew out here the same day?
EMILIA DORAN: I flew out the same day I played. I was definitely a little nervous how that went, but it was an unbelievable round. Actually Tom Jefferson, I don't remember who he's caddieing for, but he was my caddie in the practice round. He caddied in the Am and the Junior and now this, so it was pretty cool to have him caddie for me then.
Q. And now second round of the Women's Am.
EMILIA DORAN: Yeah.
Q. What's your best finish?
EMILIA DORAN: Quarterfinals.
Q. COVID year?
EMILIA DORAN: COVID year. I lost to Gabi Ruffels. Yeah, so I think I play Rianne if she wins.
Q. She's losing right now.
EMILIA DORAN: Really?
Q. She is losing. Both medalists are losing.
EMILIA DORAN: Okay, holy cow. Anyway, I'm just really excited. I kind of have some stuff to work we on so I'm going go hit the range at some point, too.
