AIG WOMEN'S OPEN

August 3, 2025

Minjee Lee

Rest Bay, Porthcawl, Wales, UK

Mixed Zone

Q. That was a nice finish to the weekend. Was it a pretty tough day out there conditions-wise, for you?

MINJEE LEE: Yeah, I feel like that's probably the worst score I could have had today. I felt like I was going pretty well and then just kind of made a silly mistake on 14. It was kind of one of those weeks where I was kind of in the middle, like I wasn't really amazing at one thing or another.

So it was kind of -- you know, I'm not complaining that I'm going to finish 13th or 14th, but yeah, I would have liked to be in the top 10.

Q. A lot of putts on the front nine of that sort of 15-, 20-foot range that just didn't drop. Is that when you kind of feel like it's not really your day to make the charge?

MINJEE LEE: I don't know, yes and no, because I knew I was like too far back to obviously win. I really wanted to get into the top 10. Sometimes they don't drop, especially around links, and in the wind I think it's even more unpredictable.

I feel like the score that I had throughout the whole week, what I ended on was probably -- I felt like I have some things that I can work on coming off today and this whole week.

Q. How do you rate the whole major season for you? Obviously you had a win and some good results now. What do you give it out of 10?

MINJEE LEE: I think from where I was at the beginning of the year and obviously winning KPMG and played Chevron and had a good finish at Evian and all right at U.S. Open and all right here. So I feel like I -- I'm going to say I've done pretty well. Maybe like an 8 1/2.

Q. I saw you talking to a little girl about her ice cream off the back of 17. How nice is it seeing young girls out watching you and inspiring them to play golf, whether they play at this level or just play at a golf club?

MINJEE LEE: Yeah, it doesn't matter what level they are. Obviously I want to give back as much as possible. If I can give a little part of me to them and try to keep them involved and continually being involved in the game of golf, then I'm going to do that.

Yeah, she was eating an ice cream, and I really wanted one at that moment. She said it tasted very good, but it did look a little melted, so I don't know.

Q. I had one. They're very good.

MINJEE LEE: I bet they are.

Q. In your time involved, how much have you seen the game grow in things like younger girls playing? How much has the game grown?

MINJEE LEE: I think definitely like after COVID a lot more people came out to play. That was kind of a weird -- it was weird, right? It was like a weird time in everybody's lives. I think a lot more children and even just younger -- I want to say youth and younger people are wanting to play, even like casually. All of my friends have picked up golf, and it's kind of cool to see, not that they ever invite me out.

No, it's just really cool that I'm able to share the game that I'm so passionate about with them. It's just kind of fun. It has been a great journey to see younger kids get involved and coming out to events. There's so many children who want autographs. Actually, funny story, the other week there was like some older people, and they were like we're the big kids. Can we get autographs too? I was like, of course. I like the big kids as well.

No, it's great to see, and I think we're kind of -- you know, we're consistently going on an upward trend in kids coming, kids playing and getting involved. I think we're only going from strength to strength.

Q. In terms of the depth of talent, how can you compare when you began to what you've got now?

MINJEE LEE: It's totally, totally different from obviously when I started. I think I said this before, it was a little more top heavy, but I feel like the depth of the field goes -- I don't really know if there's like that much of a gap now. It's very -- everybody is younger and talented and really fearless.

I played with Lottie today, and she played great. Yeah, they're just -- I feel like they don't really care as much. Maybe they need a couple more years to get more experience and they will (laughter). No, they're just -- they just feel like -- I feel like everybody's crushing it, and it's getting better and better, all the talent.
