AIG WOMEN'S OPEN

August 2, 2025

Andrea Lee

Rest Bay, Porthcawl, Wales, UK

Mixed Zone

Q. Good playing today. Well done.

ANDREA LEE: Thanks. Thank you.

Q. Walk us through that round out there. Pretty solid in these windy conditions.

ANDREA LEE: It was a solid one. I knew the wind was going to pick up, especially on the back nine, so I tried to take advantage of the front which I was able to do.

10 through 12 was a pretty nice stretch, and I knew 14 through 17 was going to be pretty tough. I was just trying to make pars on those holes. Managed to just get one on 16.

But I'm pretty happy with the way I played out there today.

Q. What did you find at Evian that's been applied to this week? Seems like something clicked that has really helped you this week.

ANDREA LEE: Yeah, I think my game is just really coming together. I think Evian was probably my best ball striking week of the year, and so I gained a lot of confidence from that.

Obviously two very different golf courses and two very different conditions, so I'm just trying to play really smart on this golf course and just take what it gives me.

Q. So your confidence was kind of bolstered by that?

ANDREA LEE: I think so. Just having a Top 5 finish at a major always does your confidence pretty well. Yeah, I knew my game was in a good position coming into this week. Obviously trying to not have any expectations and play solid golf.

Q. The other bonus is you gained ground on Miyu. The gap isn't as big as this morning. Do you think with the conditions tomorrow, having wind and rain, it's better to be a chaser than to hold the lead?

ANDREA LEE: I guess you could put it that way. I think there will be a little bit of extra pressure on whoever is the 54-hole leader.

Yeah, tomorrow is going to be pretty tough. Anything can happen out there. I think anyone within five shots has a chance at this championship honestly, so I'm just going to try and keep my head down and stick to my own game plan and try not to look at the leaderboard and just play golf.

Q. When you're making a birdie run, do you kind of block out the fact that you're going below par and just trying to play?

ANDREA LEE: Yeah, I do try to block it out on a good run. Just knowing that I am hitting good shots, hitting good putts, I can try to gain momentum from that instead of actually counting the birdies out there, which I think I did pretty well today.

I was just staying really patient and seeing the lines really well. It was nice to see a lot of the birdies go in today.

Q. What's been the key to putting well on these greens with the afternoon growth and all the footprints set in?

ANDREA LEE: Yeah, there is a little bit of poana I feel like on these greens. It's like British po, so kind of like bounces a little bit as the day goes on.

I think the biggest thing is just keeping up your speed. If it wavers a little bit or barely gets there, who knows what the ball is going to do at the hole. So just keeping the speed up.

Just been trying to get the speed right down on the greens every single day in the morning before my round, and I feel like that's been proving to work pretty well for me this week.

Q. How validating is it to find yourself in this position with 18 to go?

ANDREA LEE: Yeah, it's really exciting. Any time I put myself in contention to win is just a great opportunity, another learning experience, and I'm going to go out there and just try to have as much fun as I can and play my best golf and just see what happens at the at the end of the day.

Q. The first five and the last five holes are the teeth of it all on this golf course. How do you stay with the wheels on for tomorrow?

ANDREA LEE: Yeah, I think just knowing what holes are ahead of me, knowing what the tough holes are, what the gettable holes are, which pin positions I can attack or maybe stay a little bit defensive and having a 30-, 40-foot putt is okay; two putt for par.

So just being really smart about that and judging the wind and the conditions and how far the ball rolls out on these firm fairways. Yeah, just trying to keep doing what I'm doing.

Q. (Indiscernible).

ANDREA LEE: Korean player, yeah. It would be a fun round. But I feel like we're all going to be super focused on our own game. With the conditions I don't think we'll have time to chitchat honestly.
