AIG WOMEN'S OPEN

August 1, 2025

Megan Khang

Rest Bay, Porthcawl, Wales, UK

Mixed Zone

Q. Megan Khang, 2-under today, second round of the Women's Open. Nice return, even-par the first day and then 2-under today. You went two better. What was the difference?

MEGAN KHANG: Honestly, I felt as though I was playing pretty well both days. Yesterday just kind of got a little unfortunate with some of the greens being a little later in the day, got a little bumpy, and I wasn't able to convert some of the birdies I had out there. Today it felt kind of the same out there. Hit some pretty good shots and definitely left some out there, but I was able to kind of make a couple birdies.

Honestly I'm happy with the ball striking. I kind of got into scoring, looked at my stats, and I saw I hit 17 out of 18 greens, which is pretty good, I think out here. Obviously they're all not super close, but it's pretty good to get on the greens in regulation with the conditions, especially with the wind kind of picking up now.

Q. Sometimes it's better to be 30 feet away than 2 feet away.

MEGAN KHANG: Exactly. That's something my caddie and I have been talking about this week coming into this. There's definitely some holes where your 30-pace putt is going to be better than kind of short-siding yourself off the green. It's kind of just staying patient out there. We are at a British Open, and it's something where staying patient is never going to hurt you. I might get frustrated out there, but that's for another time.

Q. That's the way you run anyway, right?

MEGAN KHANG: Yeah, I try.

Q. You said you left a couple out there. Were there any ones that are a little bit more disappointing? Was there like a birdie putt that you left or something like that?

MEGAN KHANG: I hit some pretty good shots. On number 8, Madelene and I both hit some pretty good wedge shots in. I think we both -- kind of I didn't play enough break. It was just kind of one of those pins where it felt as though for me on my line, if I had gotten too far right, it was going to kind of break right. Then I just didn't let it go too far right, so I missed it left.

Then on No. 9, I had a big chance for eagle, especially after seeing Madelene roll hers in. I'm not going to complain about a two-putt birdie. I would have liked to make it, but never complain about a two-putt birdie.

Q. As links courses go, does this one ring your bell more than others? Is it more fun to play? Is it visually more attractive?

MEGAN KHANG: My first time in Wales, and all of our first times playing golf here. We came here on such a great track. Everyone, my caddie walking the course, me seeing all 18 holes, I walked around, and I thought this is a really nice course.

I think they've got an opportunity to put some pins in spots where you can really use the slopes to your advantage. I think that's kind of what links golf is. Whenever somebody talks to me about it, it's about being able to use the contours to your advantage.

Obviously the greens can't be too fast. Obviously you want to be on the right side of things, but it definitely is fun. I think it brings out the creativity to me on my side.

Q. With the lead being at 11-under right now.

MEGAN KHANG: Crazy.

Q. Is there a chance for you to do something special tomorrow to try to -- or is that a little too far away?

MEGAN KHANG: I think there's always a chance. You never know with links golf out here or how the weather conditions can change. I'm going to try to stick to my game plan and do what I came out here to do, stay patient, fairways and greens, and when I can, maybe capitalize on a couple.

I'm going to try to focus on myself and hopefully make up some ground the next couple of days. I can't control what they're doing, and who knows what's going to happen. It's golf. Every day is different. It's something we love and hate about this game.
