Rose Zhang

Rest Bay, Porthcawl, Wales, UK

Quick Quotes

Q. Talk about your round.

ROSE ZHANG: I feel like I'm pretty satisfied with how I carried myself throughout the round. The front nine, there wasn't too much wind, had a lot of good opportunities for birdie. I also made a couple really good par saves, which helped give me momentum. The back nine, just couldn't get any birdie putts to go in, and then I missed a short one and sent it into the bushes on the last hole.

I feel like I'm very satisfied with where my game is trending. I do think there is little things that need to be worked on, but that's all.

Q. What are those little things?

ROSE ZHANG: Just because with my golf swing right now it's not exactly the most consistent, and I have a huge draw right now, which obviously doesn't help in the wind, especially if it's right-to-left wind. So I'm trying to get that sort of adjusted for tomorrow.

Q. The fact that you're even-par after the first day is probably pretty good in your mind.

ROSE ZHANG: Rose Zhang. In my opinion, I think it's great. Honestly when I first came out here, I didn't really know what I would shoot, to be fair. I feel like the golf course can be -- the golf course can just be difficult even when good shots are hit. I'm going to take a lot of positives from today and move forward.

Q. How many bunkers did you hit off the tee? That's always the things to avoid, right?

ROSE ZHANG: Yeah. I mean, surprisingly I only hit into one bunker, and I made par from there, which was -- and it was on my 3rd hole. I think that helps me with my momentum to go into the next couple holes. I feel like par saves out here give you the most momentum.

Q. Club selection with the wind and where the bunkers are placed on this tee has got to be a big thing. Whether you could layup from a spot where you're not going to hit a driver in the wrong spot, or do you go for it and try to get a good line on a chance for birdie?

ROSE ZHANG: Exactly. I think today I hit less than 50 percent of the fairways. Obviously that stat, I would like to raise it higher for tomorrow. Just being out here, you really have to grind it out. You never know where you're going to hit it once the ball comes off the face.

Q. Did the wind pick up in a manner that was noticeable as you got nearer to the end of your round compared to the beginning?

ROSE ZHANG: It did. I feel like today's wind is a little bit on and off. There was one hole where I think it was 16 that I barely had any wind on my second shot, but I had a lot of wind on the first. It's been interesting. The wind doesn't necessarily switch up on you, but in terms of gusty, it definitely has its variable factors.
