U.S JUNIOR AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

July 26, 2025

Minh Nguyen

Dallas, Texas, USA

Trinity Forest Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Guys probably went to bed looking at 5-down and waking up this morning, thinking, wow, kid made a hell of a comeback.

MINH NGUYEN: Yeah.

Q. Talk about being 5-down and obviously guys have made comebacks in the past. What did you tell yourself to get yourself refocused, reenergized?

MINH NGUYEN: Yeah, I mean, I didn't really think much when I was 5-down. I mean, there was still 18 left in the afternoon, and I knew in myself that I can do it, I can somehow pull it to the 18th hole.

I almost did, bit apparently my flat stick just let me down.

Q. I was going to ask you about that. You had some short putts. I know the one on I believe on 10 you had a chance to win the hole.

MINH NGUYEN: Yeah.

Q. Maybe five, six feet. Couple other opportunities. The one on the par-5 here maybe by eight or seven feet or so. Just speed was off today with the putter? Nerves? Something else?

MINH NGUYEN: Yeah, I mean, it's just I really think it's just mentally. Like I was just for some reason, like I was picking my lines, I felt good about my lines, and just going nowhere near that.

My speed was okay for most of the day. Yeah, definitely got to work on the putting.

Q. Obviously another great week. You had a great week last year at this event. Finals this year. Puts maybe Vietnam on the map.

MINH NGUYEN: Hopefully.

Q. Inspiring younger kids coming up. I read a story about the number of kids coming out and playing in Vietnam is growing in the last five years. Talk about that.

MINH NGUYEN: Yeah, it's been growing a lot. It's really good to see all the kids playing golf now back at home, to see them working and hopefully can see them one day here at the U.S. Junior or in any USGA event. Pretty excited for the future for our country. Yeah, hopefully this will motivate them.

Hopefully they can look back and see, hey, we have a chance.

Q. Yeah.

MINH NGUYEN: Yeah, just hope to make something of it.

Q. You have the Western next?

MINH NGUYEN: I do, yeah.

Q. Then U.S. Am?

MINH NGUYEN: Yeah.

Q. Working on putting? You think that's the next thing you have to do to take it to the next level and hoist the trophy?

MINH NGUYEN: Yeah, definitely putting. Maybe a little bit of iron game and chipping as well.
