July 25, 2025

Ernie Els

Berkshire, England, United Kingdom

Sunningdale GC

Quick Quotes

Q. 67 after two days. How did your play compare over the two days?

ERNIE ELS: Well, I got to take the score, you know. I played good this morning and then I didn't play so good this afternoon, you know, coming in. A lot of scorable holes that I didn't take advantage of.

But 6-under seems like I'm two behind Thomas now, just birdied 18. I'm in the mix. Somebody is probably going to get to 10-under. There is still a lot of golf to be played.

Q. Tell us about playing conditions today, pin positions.

ERNIE ELS: I thought playing conditions were perfect. Obviously with the sun out. Greens weren't quite running fast yet. Flag positions were more tough today I thought. And the wind is just picking up coming out of the southwest.

Yeah, great to play.

Q. Only four players have won The Open and the Senior Open. You have the opportunity over the weekend to join them. What does that mean to you?

ERNIE ELS: Yeah, it's true. I know my good friend Darren has done that. Give me the others. Not sure who they are.

Q. Gary Player, Bob Charles, Darren, Tom Watson.

ERNIE ELS: Yeah, hell of a group of players to join if you can. This is one of my favorite courses in the world. I've got half a chance. Just got to step it up a little bit over the weekend.

I think it's going to be a tight finish. A lot of people in play over the weekend. So hope for the best.
