Q. That's a hell of a win. You knocked off a kid who is obviously coming off a USGA title in May. Was there a key moment in the match where you felt like, okay, momentum switched?

SOHAN PATEL: Not really. I mean, I feel like I just played super solid all day. On 12 and 13 I'm playing obviously against a great player in Tyler. He made two birdies on 12 and 13 to get the match back to square.

I wasn't nervous, but I was like, okay, I need to get my stuff back together. So I birdied 14 and then kind of went 1-up. Then kind of just plodded around the rest of the way.

We played an amazing match. I have nothing but respect for Tyler and it was just amazing to win like that on 18.

Q. Did you drive 14?

SOHAN PATEL: I hit it just short of the green like one yard and chipped it up to a foot and he gave it to me. He didn't get up and down.

Q. How far was his putt?

SOHAN PATEL: Like 15 feet. So he didn't hit the greatest chip, but he obviously has one of the best short games out here.

Q. I saw it on 9.

SOHAN PATEL: Yeah.

Q. 15 through 18 was it just pars?

SOHAN PATEL: 15 I made a par.

16 I birdied.

Q. So he birdied as well?

SOHAN PATEL: Yeah, 16 he birdied as well. Hit an amazing pitch shot. Like I said, he has a great short game.

17, that pin is ridiculous, so we both two-putted.

And then 18 we both hit pretty good iron shots in there and he missed it and I almost made my putt and tapped in for the win.

So very grateful and I can't wait for tomorrow.

Q. What are your other results? Do you have wins?

SOHAN PATEL: I have -- I won -- I qualified for the U.S. Am last two years; made match play at Hazeltine last year. I won couple minor league tour events which is like just -- I mean, a bunch of Korn Ferry TOUR players play that.

Q. So you won it? In Florida?

SOHAN PATEL: Yeah, in Florida. Then I won the state finals this year.

Q. High school?

SOHAN PATEL: Yeah.

Q. What class?

SOHAN PATEL: 2A. I actually beat Tyler in it.

Q. Tyler Mawhinney?

SOHAN PATEL: Mawhinney, yeah. So it's just been really cool to have good finishes. I haven't played like my best golf this summer. I've had some good results, but definitely wanted to just keep improving and get better, and this is validating all the work I put in.

Q. You're a high school junior coming up?

SOHAN PATEL: No. Our high school season is in the fall.

Q. High school year in school?

SOHAN PATEL: Sorry. Yeah, I'll be a junior this year at American Heritage in Plantation Florida. Looking to -- I'm probably going to commit within September, October.

Q. Do you have a list of finalists?

SOHAN PATEL: Yeah, I mean, definitely like all the big time schools watching me, the likes of Texas, Vanderbilt, Stanford, Oklahoma State, UNC. All those schools are great and really looking forward to choosing which one fits best for me.

SOHAN PATEL: Yes.

Q. You're exempt for next year as well.

SOHAN PATEL: Wow, that's really cool. I didn't know that. I'm super grateful for that and grateful for all the coaches that came and watched me for 36 holes today. It's not the easiest thing to walk out here, so I'm forever grateful for everyone that put in the time and effort. Even though I may not go to some of those colleges I'm grateful for the time they put in watching me and talking to me and saying all these kind things to me. Those kind things really go a long way in confidence, and that's really important to me.

Q. Qualify for this year's Am, too?

SOHAN PATEL: No, I missed my qualifier by one. Hopefully I can get to the championship so...
