THE 153RD OPEN

July 20, 2025

Wyndham Clark

County Antrim, Northern Ireland, UK

Mixed Zone

Q. Pretty impressive round, finish of the week. Your thoughts about how it went throughout Thursday to Sunday?

WYNDHAM CLARK: Yeah, I played, including last week, I played, what is that, six really good rounds. I just had two kind of sour ones. But at the end of the day, I played 16-under on the last three days. Excluding that first round, maybe we'd have a chance to win this thing.

But really pleased. I putted amazing. I hit a lot of great shots. Felt like I was in a great place. I'm super pleased.

Q. There's a lot of people in here curious about the finality of thing with Oakmont, the reports this week, maybe what they've communicated to you. I know you want to move past it, but where does it sit with their expectations of you or what, if anything, needs to be done or if nothing needs to be done?

WYNDHAM CLARK: Yeah, so obviously I feel terrible with what happened. I'm doing anything I can to try to remedy the situation.

We're trying to keep it private between Oakmont, myself and the USGA. I'm just happy we have a pathway moving forward, and like you said, I'm hoping we can get past this and move on and hope there's no ill-will towards me and Oakmont.

Like you said, I'm just trying to get past it. I want the best for Oakmont, the USGA and myself. Like I said, I'm very sorry for what I did and feel terrible, and hopefully in a few months we're past this, and it's something of the past.

Q. Do you find it strange or odd, the letter that they sent to members publicly, because that's not very private?

WYNDHAM CLARK: Yeah, we were hoping it was going to be private. I'll just leave it at that.

Q. Looking into the future, Ryder Cup, after this performance this week, what are your thoughts and your expectations?

WYNDHAM CLARK: I haven't had a good year, to be honest. I would have loved to make a few more putts to try to get a second place because then maybe I'd have a better chance. But you never know. My game really fits Bethpage Black, long hitter, and I feel like I'm starting to play really good golf these last four or five weeks. I've played two or three good rounds, I just haven't put four together, and these last two weeks I kind of did.

Who knows; I still have a few more weeks and the Playoffs. You never know, I could try to get a captain's pick, but I'd love to be on Team USA. Hopefully I play some good golf coming up.

Q. What happened at Oakmont and previously at Quail Hollow has at least created a perception that you have temper issues. Is that unfair? Do you feel as if that is a problem?

WYNDHAM CLARK: I've had them in the past. I've been pretty open about my mental shift and change to get better, and I did that in '23 and '24, and then having a tough year and all the expectations and just frustration all coming together, and I did two stupid things. But one thing that it did do is wake me up and get me back into the person I know I am and the person I want to be.

I hope those things don't reflect because I don't think they reflect on who I am, and going forward that stuff is not going to happen again.

Q. We don't understand how difficult it is for you guys in this environment; it's mentally tough, right?

WYNDHAM CLARK: Yeah, I'm not going to justify what I did in those two things. But yes, it is very demanding. It's an individual sport. Everyone is always watching you and it's always on you.

Yeah, sometimes it gets the best of you. All of us have had moments that we're not proud of, and those two I'm definitely not proud of. So it is difficult.

Q. As it stands right now, do you expect to be able to play Oakmont again in the future?

WYNDHAM CLARK: I don't know. That's up to them. That's up to them. I really don't know. I would hope so. It's a fantastic course and place. But that's up to them.

I did something awful, and I'm really sorry for it. Hopefully they have it in their heart to forgive me, and maybe in the future I'll be able to play there.

Q. What they outlined, did that seem reasonable that you could tick off with a sort of charitable contribution, things like that? Did that seem reasonable to you?

WYNDHAM CLARK: Yeah, we reached out and we wanted to do that. Obviously it's a no-brainer to pay for the damages. That was a given. Then obviously all the apologies, and I want to give back to the community because I hurt a great place in Pittsburgh, so I wanted to do anything I can to show them that what happened there was not a reflection of who I am and won't happen again. But I want to show them who I really am with the apology and the things I'm going to do.

Q. You'll be exempt in 2033 when it's back at Oakmont. Are you expecting to be in the field?

WYNDHAM CLARK: No idea. That's up to them. I hope so.
