THE 153RD OPEN

July 19, 2025

John Parry

County Antrim, Northern Ireland, UK

Mixed Zone

Q. Where should we start, John?

JOHN PARRY: Yeah, it was a great day. Obviously the sort of experience you get making a hole-in-one, the atmosphere was absolutely amazing.

Q. How many have you had career-wise?

JOHN PARRY: I think that is about 10. I haven't counted back and could probably work it out, but it's about 10, yeah.

Q. Was that the best one?

JOHN PARRY: Definitely the best one, 100 per cent.

Q. Did it seem to give you a kick on?

JOHN PARRY: Yeah, it's one of them, isn't it, where you can almost get a bit carried away and then it goes a bit downhill. I was sort of back to reality because I think the 14th is the probably the hardest hole on the course, so it was back to grinding it out.

It was one of them I played really well but didn't really hole many putts. It sort of felt like I got back to even where I should really be, if that makes sense. It took a bit of the pressure off coming up the stretch; I felt like I could push on a little bit. Shame about bogeying the last, but I played really good, so I'm pretty happy.

Q. Did you have a feeling as soon as you hit it it was going to go in?

JOHN PARRY: No. I did hit a really good shot for once, so it was quite nice. It was quite a comfortable shot where I knew I had a big window to land the ball in. It was either going to pitch short and hit the downslope and feed down or -- it went in a bit stronger than I thought it would from that distance for what club I hit. But I felt like it was going to be close.

Q. You've finished your third round here; what do you make of Royal Portrush?

JOHN PARRY: Amazing, yeah. It's interesting chatting to other golfers who have a played a lot of the rota, and I obviously played with Justin Leonard today, and he puts it up there with there's like three courses he named, and he put it right within them, so you know you're playing a great links course.

Q. The plan is to do the same tomorrow at the 13th?

JOHN PARRY: Yeah, that is the plan definitely. Fingers crossed that can happen.

Q. Tell us what club you hit on 13.

JOHN PARRY: I hit an 8-iron.
