THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

June 30, 2025

Eva Lys

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

E. LYS/Y. Yue

6-4, 5-7, 6-2

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. Just wondering what it took for you to regain your composure and focus after the match points early on to be able to win it in the end?

EVA LYS: I mean, if anybody was watching the match, I definitely had no composure after it (smiling), so the two games were definitely tough on me, because it's just not a nice feeling.

I know the match has to keep going, and I was talking to some players about having match points, and they lost. One thing I always told them is to get over it. So I told that to myself, and I got over it and just tried to play the third set as if nothing happened, and I'm really glad I passed.

Q. Did you give yourself mental instructions, like get over it, and actually listen to yourself?

EVA LYS: Especially after a match point, obviously if I go out, I want to win, and being so close to winning and then knowing that -- because I feel like there are different match points. Sometimes a player is playing amazing, and sometimes you do easy mistakes. Don't get me wrong, she was playing great, but the match points I had, I was way too -- I made a mistake way too quick. So I felt like it was on me.

I think it's tough to get over it and just accept it if you are this close to winning. I mean, Wimbledon is one of the greatest tournaments out there. Yeah, you just have to keep going. Until the last point isn't over, it keeps going (smiling).

Q. How did you find the heat? The question that everybody has been asking.

EVA LYS: Tough. Really, really tough. I think one thing that is really helping me is to know my opponent has the same situation as me. I was sweating a lot, so my racquet was very slippery.

It's the first time playing with heat on grass. I feel like it's really tough on the legs. This is especially what I felt in the third set.

Yeah, I think the spectators didn't have it easy either. So I feel like everyone is kind of struggling with the heat right now.

Q. Why is it so hard on the legs? Just the nature of the surface?

EVA LYS: Yeah, first of all, nature of the surface. I'm not that experienced on the surface yet, so it's definitely tough on my legs in general because I'm not always sure how to move.

You always have to stay really, really low, and especially with the heat, when you are getting tired. I mean, I don't know if anyone saw, but I slipped twice, which is also maybe a thing where, like, with the heat, the focus is not as good. You're not making clean steps.

So it's just not an easy situation to find a way through, but I feel like this was the best experience for me on grass.

Q. In terms of making it to now the second round of at least of all three majors so far this year, how does it feel to have that kind of consistency to show up and be ready to be in this whole Grand Slam atmosphere and belong here?

EVA LYS: It's giving me a lot of confidence. Sometimes in the other tournaments I didn't feel like I could really play the game I wanted to play. Definitely when it matters the most, which is Grand Slams, I'm really happy that I can find a way to make it into second round.

Obviously I do want to make it further, but yeah, it's definitely a confidence booster. I'm really happy I made it.

Q. I guess next round against Noskova. I don't know if you have played her.

EVA LYS: This is the first time I'm finding out about it, so I don't care who to play.
