THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

June 30, 2025

Henry Searle

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

E. QUINN/H. Searle

4-6, 6-2, 7-6, 6-2

THE MODERATOR: Talk me through today and the result.

HENRY SEARLE: Yeah, it was a tough one. I thought I started well, and he obviously fought back in the second set. Then it was very 50/50 in the third set. He played some really good stuff in the last set.

Q. How tough was it after that third set tiebreak to sort of try to dig in and find a second wind?

HENRY SEARLE: Yeah, it was tough. I went to the toilet, tried to take my mind off that set, and come out and reset. Yeah, ultimately, yeah, he just played the better tennis.

Q. The conditions, it looked really hot out there.

HENRY SEARLE: It was hot to start. It was bearable. It wasn't too bad at all. Yeah, it was definitely hot.

Q. How do you rest and recover from a result like today?

HENRY SEARLE: We do a little bit of stretching, get in the physio room and get a massage, and then yeah, get ready for the doubles.

Q. I wonder, to build off and go towards the doubles, that's a quick turnaround. How do you deal with that? Obviously you had Eastbourne and before that you had Queen's.

HENRY SEARLE: It's a completely different thing to singles. It's a bit more fun, if you like. You're playing with someone else as well, so yeah, looking forward to it.

Q. What impressed you the most today with Ethan?

HENRY SEARLE: I think the serving. The serving display was pretty good throughout the match. I mean, it was a lot of serves on the line or near the line. So yeah, it was tough.

Q. What learnings do you take from today?

HENRY SEARLE: It's a good experience overall. I think, yeah, another four-set match under my belt. We're not obviously playing five sets every week, and especially not me if I'm not at Grand Slam level yet. So yeah, it's a good experience to be on court for that long as well.

Q. To build off experience, you won boys singles in 2023. Now it's two years now you've had that experience of being in the men's. What has that transition been like?

HENRY SEARLE: Yeah, it's been good. It's been tough. Obviously the mental and the physical side is a lot more than juniors, and it's a lot more demanding than the juniors. So, yeah, it's adapting to that, but we're getting there slowly.

Q. Obviously you're teaming up with someone in Dan Evans who has sort of been there, seen it, and done it all. Do you lean on him for advice for what it takes to make that step up?

HENRY SEARLE: Yeah, I'm always trying to pick his brains and get little bits of advice off him as well. He's also very good at saying things if we're practicing or even on the doubles court as well. He's very supportive.

Q. How much closer do you feel you're getting towards showcasing the best of your tennis in the grass court season so far?

HENRY SEARLE: Yeah, I think we're getting there. It was very nip-and-tuck today, I thought. Yeah, I thought if I could get away with the third set, then the match would have flipped a little bit, but that wasn't meant to be today.

Q. How excited are you for the doubles coming up against Henry Patton and Harri?

HENRY SEARLE: Yeah, it will be good. It will be a good atmosphere, that's for sure. Obviously playing them in Queen's as well. So, yeah, it will be a fun match.

Q. Lastly, can I just ask you about Wolves? Have you following transfers and the like? How optimistic are you heading to a new season?

HENRY SEARLE: Hopefully there's a few more signings throughout this window and then, yeah, hopefully we can stop the bad form to start the season and come out with some good results at the start.

Q. What words do you have to say to Vitor Pereira?

HENRY SEARLE: I think he just needs to keep doing what he's doing. It's obviously worked the second half of the season. So yeah, hopefully we can start this season how he came in.
