THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

June 30, 2025

Billy Harris

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

B. HARRIS/D. Lajovic

6-3, 6-2, 6-4

THE MODERATOR: Congratulations today. How did it feel getting your first win?

BILLY HARRIS: Thank you. It felt amazing to get over the line today, and I thought I played a pretty solid match and good performance from start to finish really.

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. Was it something you've dreamt of as a kid?

BILLY HARRIS: Yeah, definitely. It's always been on the radar to get to the Grand Slams and win some matches. It's a great start today. Hopefully I can continue.

Q. How did you celebrate in the locker room? What did you could afterwards?

BILLY HARRIS: I didn't really celebrate in the locker room. Just saw my family and my coaches. Yeah, they all said, Great performance. Looking onto the next one now.

Q. You just won a Wimbledon match. You seem so cool and calm. You don't seem like you're overjoyed.

BILLY HARRIS: Definitely happy, but you can't be jumping up and down when you have won one match, can you?

Q. No. You have 99,000 pounds now. Considerable amount of money. That's one of your biggest pay days, would you say?

BILLY HARRIS: It would be, yeah. It's obviously nice to get that. Yeah, biggest payday so far.

Q. Eight aces in that match. That's a weapon given your height and given your talent. That's something that's clearly going to give you confidence in the second round?

BILLY HARRIS: Yeah, I think what I've been practicing the last few days with my coach has been working well. Just pleased that I could bring that into the match and execute the plan pretty well today.

Q. What do you know of your next opponent, Nuno Borges.

BILLY HARRIS: I know he's a good all-around player. Very good from the baseline. It's going to be a tough match, but I think if I focus on my own game and do what I can to bring my strengths to the court, it will be a good match.

Q. Obviously you just played Eastborne. What's it's been like that quick turnaround between there and here?

BILLY HARRIS: I think it was good to get those extra matches after losing in qualifying and getting the lucky loser. That's put me in good shape coming into this week. So it was a good fill of confidence to get some wins over good players.

Q. How confident are you at the minute? Obviously your first win at Wimbledon. This is almost the pinnacle of your career so far. Is that something you would agree with?

BILLY HARRIS: Yes, it's definitely probably the -- yeah, it's got to be the highlight of my career so far, but you don't really want to think about that too much and just focus on the next match.

Q. Have you been paying attention to any of the other British results today and the other British successes?

BILLY HARRIS: Yeah, I've seen a few results. I know Tarvet won in straight sets. He has done really well through qualifying and come through that and then back it up again today. He's obviously playing really good tennis at the moment.

Yeah, I can't remember all of the results, to be honest.

Q. Results like Tarvet and yours, that's what the magic of Wimbledon is about, isn't it, anything can happen?

BILLY HARRIS: Yeah, anything can happen. With the home crowd behind you as well. Sometimes friends and family and all the British support can help you over the line sometimes as well.
