THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

June 30, 2025

Mingge Xu

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

E. RADUCANU/M. Xu

6-3, 6-3

THE MODERATOR: Mimi, tough result today, but how did it feel playing your first Wimbledon main draw?

MINGGE XU: Yeah, obviously it's not my dream debut. My dream debut would have definitely to have won, but I'm so honored that this is my debut.

I got to play on an amazing court with an amazing crowd, such a great atmosphere, against an amazing opponent. I just don't think I could have asked for anything different.

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. What will you take from it to work on for next time?

MINGGE XU: I honestly think that I enjoyed every moment out there. I feel like it's made me believe in myself, believe in my game that it's there, that the good stuff is really there. It's really good, but it's just being able to do it more consistently.

It's really put belief in me, ignited a fire within me that I can do this, and I belong here.

Q. There was a good section of the crowd cheering for you. Did you expect that? Did you find that quite moving?

MINGGE XU: I don't know what I expected, to be fair. I expected anything to happen out there, but I honestly think I'm so grateful to everyone who came to support.

In my box I had all my old coaches from in Swansea when I was 4 years old. They all came to support me. I'm just really appreciative of all of them for going out of there way to come and support me.

Yeah, I'm just -- I just really wanted it to last a tiny bit longer, but I loved every single moment out there.

Q. If I could just ask, you are three teenagers making their debuts at Wimbledon, Hannah and Mika. Can I get a few words on what the relationship between you is like?

MINGGE XU: We've known each other since we were like 8, 9 I think. We've grown up together. I boarded with Mika for a few years, so we know each other so well.

I think we have a really good friendly competition between us. If we see each other do well, we're really happy for each other, but we want to do well ourselves. So we push each other every single day. I think ultimately that makes us all better.

Q. What was it like going up against Emma today?

MINGGE XU: Honestly, it's such an honor to play against her on my debut. She's such a hard worker because I train with her at the NTC.

She's so hard-working. She puts so much effort in day in and day out. It's someone I really look up to and someone who really inspires me.

Honestly, I don't think I would have wanted it any different. I've learned so much from this match, from playing her, kind of how she deals with these moments and what the differences were there against a top player. I think I can do a lot of things in my game to improve it further.

Q. You still have doubles to come. Teaming up with Ella McDonald. How excited are you to play doubles?

MINGGE XU: I think it's a really good opportunity to go out there after losing singles, to go out there and just enjoy every moment. Me and Ella, we get on really well off court. I think we're just going to have a great time out there, like whatever the result. If we enjoy every moment, I think that's a win.

THE MODERATOR: Beyond Wimbledon, what's next for you?

MINGGE XU: I honestly have no clue. My focus right now is just to enjoy every single -- enjoy, embrace, experience every single moment that I have here at Wimbledon these next few weeks.

Then we'll see what happens afterwards. I think tennis is one of those sports where you don't know. It's on your ranking. You don't know what's going to be next, so yeah, we'll see.
