THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

June 30, 2025

Jasmine Paolini

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

J. PAOLINI/A. Sevastova

2-6, 6-3, 6-2

THE MODERATOR: Questions in English.

Q. You had some tough battles here last year that you were able to make it through. Did it help your confidence in the third set, knowing the tough battles that you made through on these courts last year?

JASMINE PAOLINI: I don't know. I was just thinking about the match today, but yeah, it was tough. But in the third set for sure I play the best set of the three. I don't know.

I think, you know, it helping me a little bit to hit balls, to try to stay there. In the end I play a bit better, and I'm happy with the win, because it was a tough match.

Q. You're a successful doubles player as well, particularly in the last 12 months participating with Sara Errani. You have won five titles, including the Olympics last year and a few others as well. Does playing doubles also help your singles game? How do you find the dichotomy of those two things? Does it help? Also, particularly on the grass court maybe where the net game becomes more important at times?

JASMINE PAOLINI: Yes, I think it helped me a lot with volleys as well, serve. You have the chance to serve more, to volley more, and to return as well. It's important.

I don't know when we're going to play, but I think it's good to play one more match on grass, you know, to get confident. Yeah, I think it's a positive thing for me.

Q. I just want to know, you said that during the match when you started to smile, you played better. Can you explain that? You always have a smile on your face. Basically people know you for that. Can you just --

JASMINE PAOLINI: In the first set, no (laughing). No. You know, I was trying to, I don't know how to say in English, but like say to myself that, you know, doesn't matter, smile. Things are going bad, but I don't know, try to relax a little bit.

It's a bad day. In that moment I was thinking, It's a bad day, but still you are here. If it's going bad, it doesn't -- it's going just bad. I am going to lose a tennis match and trying to smile a little bit, because I feel that it can relax me a little bit. Somehow I get less nervous when I do this.

It was tough to find that smile today, honestly (laughing).
