THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

July 1, 2025

George Loffhagen

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

P. MARTINEZ/G. Loffhagen

2-6, 6-2, 6-4, 6-2

THE MODERATOR: Questions for George.

Q. The first set doesn't quite go your way. How was it from your perspective?

GEORGE LOFFHAGEN: I thought I played a good first set. I thought I served very well. I didn't feel -- like, I thought, yeah, I did all right from the back of the court. Then, yeah, I definitely felt the next three sets didn't serve as well and didn't feel too confident from the back of the court.

Yeah, that was it really. I felt like he played better than me from the back. Yeah, my serve let me down, I think, yeah.

Q. Half the Brits won their fist matches. You didn't quite do it. What is the difference between getting that first win at Wimbledon, do you think? What do you need to do next time perhaps?

GEORGE LOFFHAGEN: I think play better (smiling). I feel like I could have played better today. I feel like that's one of the biggest things, yeah.

Q. Was it a thing where you felt a little bit of pressure, because there was times where even the last three sets, you lost them, but at the beginning they were always very tight. Was the pressure getting to you, or was it just, like you said, early on you felt a bit not that confident?

GEORGE LOFFHAGEN: I definitely feel there's probably more pressure. You feel more pressure because of the event. But, yeah, to be honest, I didn't feel -- I sort of just didn't feel too great playing or the feelings on the racquet. I was struggling a bit with my tennis.

Yeah, I felt like I was coming through some games that were tough. Then, yeah, there were just a few too many errors, so yeah.

Q. Despite today's level, I've watched a couple of your matches last year. To be fair, there's actually been a massive improvement, especially after that you've had more control of your serve and your forehand. What are the things that have helped you with that? Was it playing more matches? Is there anything you've changed between last year and this year?

GEORGE LOFFHAGEN: I think I've done some good work on the practice court, changed a couple of things on my serve. Yeah, I feel like it's just sort of feeling like I'm improving day-to-day. Obviously confidence with wins in matches and stuff this year.

I think also just staying fit is a big thing. I feel I've struggled with injuries a bit the last couple of years. So, yeah, I feel like that's helped me be on court more, so I've been able to then feel like I'm improving more, yeah.

Q. You've had a really consistent season this year. Do you feel like the more matches you've been playing, the more the improvements have come in?

GEORGE LOFFHAGEN: Yeah, I feel like definitely match wins are a big thing for your confidence and your feeling on the match court. Yeah, I definitely feel those wins have helped me this year and also helps you get to try and play high-level guys, so you can get a bit more experience at the higher-level tournaments.

So, yeah, I definitely feel those have helped me this year, yeah.

Q. What comes next for you now?

GEORGE LOFFHAGEN: So there's a tournament next week in Nottingham, a challenger there. Then I'll play a few in Europe on hard courts, yeah.

Q. Is Nottingham on grass?

GEORGE LOFFHAGEN: Yes.

Q. So the grass season isn't finished?

GEORGE LOFFHAGEN: There's a tournament next week actually, yeah. The LTA put it on.

Q. How will that feel playing on grass when Wimbledon is in the second week? Have you done it before? Is it a bit strange because everyone is so focused on Southwest London.

GEORGE LOFFHAGEN: I don't think I've played a grass tournament after I've finished in Wimbledon. I don't think it will feel too weird because, generally, like if you are playing challengers or futures, there will normally be ATP tournaments going on. Yeah, it wouldn't be too weird, I don't think.

Q. What's the top prize money?

GEORGE LOFFHAGEN: I'm not sure.

Q. Is it 25 or 15 or...

GEORGE LOFFHAGEN: To be honest, I would have to check what the prize money for the winner or, yeah, whatever is, yeah.
