July 1, 2025
Wimbledon, London, UK
Press Conference
A. RINDERKNECH/A. Zverev
7-6, 6-7, 6-3, 6-7, 6-4
THE MODERATOR: Arthur, congratulations on your win. Just describe your emotions after the match today.
ARTHUR RINDERKNECH: Yeah, of course, lots of emotions. Like I said on court, it was difficult to find the words to describe whatever I was feeling on court. You know, the Centre Court of Wimbledon. Every single player in the world knows how incredible and privilege it is to play on this court.
Incredibly happy and pleased about the win today, but you know, it's a two-days win. I already need to play tomorrow, so the focus is on recovering and being ready for tomorrow.
THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.
Q. It was a great one for you today. My first question is, do you feel as if this is the biggest win of your career?
ARTHUR RINDERKNECH: Yeah, definitely. When it's on Centre Court of Wimbledon against a guy like Sascha, who is No. 3 in the world, been there for the last probably ten years, so consistent player, and five sets, I can't really ask for more. Yeah, it is.
Q. You were up in that four-set tiebreaker, and then you had the disappointment of losing that set. How were you able to recover in that fifth set and find a way to get the win?
ARTHUR RINDERKNECH: I don't know. I just tried to throw it away next to me and just focus about the present moment. I went to the restroom, changed everything, all my clothes, and was, like, Okay, it's a one-set match and just give it everything, and no regrets at the end.
I was lucky it was no regrets and a win. That's even better.
Q. What do you know about your next rival? How much of a disadvantage you are feeling now considering that he is resting since yesterday 4:00 p.m.?
ARTHUR RINDERKNECH: Yeah, I mean, first of all, he's a great player. He is also very good on grass, because he made the quarterfinal here, I think, a few years ago. So he is capable of winning many matches on grass. So it's going to be very difficult for sure.
He's probably going to be more rested than me, but you know, maybe I'll try to just jump right where I left off today and play a good match.
Q. The fact that the match was stopped last night near to 11:00 and then you have to start playing today, what do you think about this curfew at 11:00? Did that work into your advantage or not?
ARTHUR RINDERKNECH: I'm not sure. We were at one set all, so the conditions were great, of course, but the 11:00 curfew is the rule here. It's the only Grand Slam where you cannot play until the end in the evening by night. That's how it is. We have to do with that.
Alcaraz and Fognini played more than four hours and a half on the first match, so probably not going to happen many times in the history of the first round, first match on Centre Court, I'm sure. But that is how it is, so it's fine with me.
