M. ANDREEVA/L. Bronzetti
6-1, 7-6
THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.
Q. In two sets. You implemented the forehand slice quite a bit today. Do you feel like the forehand slice can sometimes be an underrated shot in the game or underused?
MIRRA ANDREEVA: Yeah, I use that shot sometimes to defend or if sometimes I also want to change a rhythm. So basically, like, backhand slice, but I feel like I use it maybe a little bit more in defense.
On grass I think it can be a good shot, but I felt like today I really, really overused it, which is okay. I think that sometimes it happens. In the end I felt like I fixed it. Yeah, sometimes there are days when I rely more on my slices.
Yeah, overall I can say it can be an underrated shot, but only if you use it right.
Q. What are the other specifics, would you say, of the way your game is suited for grass?
MIRRA ANDREEVA: I don't know. I think that on grass I can play more aggressive, and I think that the player that plays a little bit more aggressive the surface is benefitting that player.
Now I'm trying to learn and improve how to finish the point at the net to be more aggressive, so I felt like it's working so far. If it's working, I'm just going to continue to do it because if it's working, why would I change it?
Yeah, that's what I've been focusing on, and I think that is a good, yeah, tactics to have on grass court.
Q. As things are working, how would you describe your level of confidence right now after having these couple of matches under your belt?
MIRRA ANDREEVA: Yeah, definitely my level of tennis confidence is raising a little bit with winning more matches on grass. Before, yeah, it was not really good with me playing on grass, but I feel like now I'm back on track. I also understand the surface a little bit better, and I also understand to how on this surface better.
Yeah, my confidence is growing step by step. I think that with every match I play, I play better and better.
Q. You're quite early, of course, still in your career, but I'm a bit curious about one mental aspect of how you approach the game. What do you feel like defines you better... loving to win, hating to lose?
MIRRA ANDREEVA: Both (smiling). I think if you find a right balance between these two is amazing, but sometimes I feel like if you focus too much on hating to lose, it can bring you to a really, really negative hole that maybe sometimes it's going to be hard to get out of that.
But I think that maybe sometimes -- I don't know. Probably doing finding a balance in between these two would be great, I think.
Q. What do you know about your next opponent, if anything, and what are your expectations?
MIRRA ANDREEVA: Yeah, I played against her doubles in Paris, which is completely different playing doubles on clay court and playing single on grass court. Yeah, I hope that Conchita will give me nice advice how to play against her.
I saw a couple of points here and there when she played some singles matches. I really don't know how she plays on grass, so I feel like that's already Conchita's job to explain me what to do (smiling).
