THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

July 4, 2025

Nicolas Jarry

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

N. JARRY/J. Fonseca

6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6

THE MODERATOR: You must be very pleased to be through. Just tell us about the match from your perspective.

NICOLAS JARRY: Yeah, let's see, the first two sets were very good from my part. I played the level that I've been playing this couple of weeks. Until the break in the third set that I think made me think a little bit more and doubt a little bit. Also, Joao started playing better, returning better. Those two things happened.

I think in the fourth it was very equal in terms of level. I don't know if I -- I think I had one break point or something, but I was trying to recover my game.

At the end of that set I felt more comfortable and confident. That gave me some strength to play very good the tiebreak.

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. This is your best run at Wimbledon. How does it feel to have done it the hard way by coming through qualifying?

NICOLAS JARRY: I think it doesn't matter if it's through quallies or not. That's just the battles or the difficulties that each player has.

But being in the fourth round, it's very special. So I'm very happy to be in this position. It's very difficult to be in the fourth round of a Grand Slam, so I'm very happy to be here.

Q. What were the emotions like? You especially shared quite a nice moment with your family on court after.

NICOLAS JARRY: Yeah, very emotional. It was a very difficult fourth set. So when I finish, everything came through, and it was pure, pure joy. I think just a lot of emotion that has been building up inside of me this last year that I was able to just release and enjoy the moment.

Q. What was it like for you facing Joao? There's been so much made of him and his game. I believe that was the first time that you had ever played. What was your impression?

NICOLAS JARRY: Yeah, he's a very good guy. Just by being 18, he plays a very high level of tennis. He's very mature for his age, confident. He's a very good player. So he has many, many years to keep improving.

Q. 51 years after I believe your grandfather made it to the fourth round, what does that mean to have sort of that legacy continued in the family? That must feel special, especially at Wimbledon.

NICOLAS JARRY: Yeah, I came here with him when I was 10 years old and 11. Since then, I'm in love with this tournament. So I'm happy to, yeah -- every match that I win here makes me stay a couple more days in the tournament, and that makes me very happy.

So this is the longest period that I've been, and hopefully I can continue playing a little bit more.

Q. Have you addressed the next match? Would you like to?

NICOLAS JARRY: Cam, I think he's been playing very good these last couple of months. I think he struggled a little bit last year, but now he's confident, and he's playing at home, so obviously it's an advantage for him.

He's a great guy. He likes to battle too, so it's difficult to pass through. I have to be very, very, very fast, very consistent and not give him too much options and be very aggressive at the beginning of the point.

Q. Do you remember the last time you played Cam in 2019?

NICOLAS JARRY: Rome?

Q. Yes, Rome qualifying. Have you guys played, practiced together since?

NICOLAS JARRY: I don't know if we practiced since then. I remember that match was tight. I had a match point, easy forehand with the court wide open that I missed long, but that's, yeah, very in the past. It's just a moment.

Yeah, we both have improved and changed a lot since then.
