THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

July 5, 2025

Clara Tauson

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

C. TAUSON/E. Rybakina

7-6, 6-3

THE MODERATOR: Nice win this afternoon. If you could just sum up the match today for us.

CLARA TAUSON: Yeah, I think I played some of my very best tennis today. It was a hard-fought match. She's a great player, great champion, so I'm super happy.

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. How would you describe beyond "super happy," the emotions, the feelings on being this far into this tournament going into the second week?

CLARA TAUSON: Yeah, I mean, I never expected it. I've never had very good results on grass. I came here with a little bit of confidence of, yeah, making it a few rounds. But winning against Elena was definitely going to be a tough job, and it was.

But I think, as I said, I played some of my best tennis, and it was obviously a great feeling winning today.

Q. You spoke about you got to the second week of Wimbledon for the first time. What have you done differently on the surface that you maybe haven't done before? I noticed you sort of used the slice a lot today.

CLARA TAUSON: Yeah, I mean, my slice was working really good today. I was hitting all the spots that I wanted. It's not often that it works like that.

Yeah, it was a good thing for me to mix it up today because when you give Elena the big power, she's going to hit it even harder back at you. So I think it was the right decision to use the slice from both sides and, yeah, play aggressive when I had the chance.

Q. What a week for Danish tennis. Can I just ask you about August and how well you know him? He's playing right now and what kind of relationship you have with him and what you think of his game.

CLARA TAUSON: Yeah, I mean, I know him pretty well. I would say we used to play in the same club for a couple of years at home in Denmark before he went to college. Yeah, it's obviously great what he's been doing. It's good to see.

Q. You are having not only good tournament here, but also this season overall. You mentioned your coach, who is also your boyfriend, having good training and session. Can you talk about what kind of things you have been doing this last offseason, and what is working well in this season.

CLARA TAUSON: Yeah, I think we just -- I mean, he's obviously my boyfriend and my coach. It's sometimes hard thing to do, but I think it's been really easy for us because we trust each other a lot, both skills-wise and also in life. I think just having someone in my corner that I know who believes I can win no matter the score and no matter how it looks.

Yeah, we've been working so hard every single day. We're both really perfectionist. It's hard to achieve in tennis, but we're working towards it. Yeah, we do everything with as much care as we can and try to do our very best, both of us, every single day. I think that's really, yeah, raised my level a lot.

Q. When did you start working with him as...

CLARA TAUSON: After US Open last year.

Q. Your next opponent has not been determined yet, but if you were to face Iga Swiatek after facing today's opponent, a former Wimbledon champion, what confidence might today's victory give you for this next difficult opponent? Obviously a multiple major champion.

CLARA TAUSON: Obviously, Iga is a big, big champion. She's playing pretty good right now, I think, looking at the score (smiling). Yeah, she's amazing tennis player. Nothing to say there at all.

I know that she's maybe not the most comfortable on grass, but neither was I a week ago (smiling). I think if I play the same tennis as I did today, it's going to be a tight match, but obviously I played some of my very best tennis.

I'm going to expect that it's not going to be the same in my next round, and I'm going to fight for every single point, game, whatever.

Q. What do you admire most about her game over the years?

CLARA TAUSON: I think her intensity is different from every single player. Her footwork is out of this league, I think. I think that's what really is a big factor for her that she's so intense and so mentally prepared all the time.
